This reminds me of when DigiBro would do My Little Pony videos and complain that a cartoon horse show didn't have lesbian romance or anime character arcs. I get not agreeing with "it's just a kid's show", but the target audience should absolutely be considered. Kids don't give a shit about symbolism, subtext and definitely not autistic pedantry about established rules. Which seems like kind of a misnomer in the conext of that episode, the whole thing literally takes place in a dream.
Those things are usually baked into the core of the show for older fans, kids get a kick out of the bright colours and likable characters. It's fine to accept a show for either style.
Batman is a special exception since it already has a pre-established adult fanbase, and even then the more mature episodes are probably more to the benefit of the writers than any audience. Most kids shows don't write largely for adults, and when these manchildren expect kids TV to be like their Evangelions its like barging into a gay bar and demanding they get some female strippers in there. Just let the kids have something for once. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a children's show, but expecting it to cater to your adult sensibilities is what's really immature.
The same people who complain about something not being deep enough for them would just complain if they didn't get the outcome they wanted anyway. Best to ignore them and stay the course.
