It was pretty alright until that episode too, it's a terrible derail from the plot set up and I have no idea what the hell they're doing.

Yet Mauler and co. are an exception, since they have no damn life and don't care about taking literal months to go through a back log of superchats while going on constant tangents. I know I've discussed this before, but it's just so nonsensical it boggles my mind.

It's insane that they haven't just realize that they'll never catch up, it's one of those things where you need to read them as they happen otherwise why bother?

The Mulan "Old vs New" watch party is worth a look if you haven't seen it.

Watching Mauler try to sperg about good films like "The Father" is fucking painful to watch. Watching him sperg out about bland shit like "Bly Manor" or "The Boys" is fucking cringe.

Watching him rip the "Mulan" remake or "Cruella" to shit is justified nuclear autism.

Who cares at this point? I doubt he does. I don't. I don't care what he'll have to say about it either. Outside of the Cruella video, this has been an incredibly boring month. Though to be honest, I have been completely ignoring Southpaw recently.

Seriously, Batwoman just had it's season finale and they only just got to episode 6, I don't know if they haven't recorded it yet or the editors are just being lazy, but this content drought does make Mauler pretty boring. Also they care about Mando for the same reason they care about MCU TV shows, despite hating it, it's the only way they will stay relevant.

Even EFAP has dried up. All of MauLer's livestreams recently have been video games and superchats. I guess they either really want to catch up on superchats, they can't coordinate enough guests, or MauLer is making a decent video. If @Korpon is correct (I assume he received this information from Discord), he's working on multiple EFAP Movies. I honestly could care less about those as well, unless they are incredibly high-quality and funny.

Pretty much this, this is where his objectivity sperging falls short in practice. Judging movies or games only on what you can 'objectively' criticise by pointing out inconsistencies is pretty useful for separating good from bad, but not at separating good from great.

A lot of trash makes similar mistakes because it's made by hacks, so you can develop reliable standards for it, whereas what makes something a classic or timeless is a lot harder to pin down and usually pretty unique to that particular work. You can have the tightest script and the best production values possible, but for something to be memorable it has to connect with people on a subjective level.

The reason why a decent film like Joker has been elevated to cult status (including by MauLer and co) is because, ironically, it connected with a lot of people's subjective feelings of disenfranchisement. Whether something sticks with people is inevitably down to the time in which its made and the context surrounding it. A lot of historically significant media wouldn't get as much attention if it were released today.

I feel like the insistence on objectivity is just an excuse for ignoring context because MauLer thinks it's totally gay and his rational skeptic mind trumps the need for such things, but it leaves his commentary on the things he likes insufferably surface level.
