There's such a strong social pressure for women to wear makeup that I think most women, at least to some extent, wear makeup to look good for others. Lots of women claim they do it for themselves only, but if you feel better about your appearance because of makeup then it's probably because you're following beauty standards that other people view as attractive. So in the end there's still a bit of the social aspect motivating makeup use. I still wear makeup but probably wouldn't if it wasn't as much of a social expectation.

I don’t think a lot of men realize how much skill and practice makeup really takes. For most girls, you start learning around age 13 and get a grace period where it’s ok to have kinda weird looking badly done makeup because you’re a kid and still learning. I have adult female friends who never bothered and are now too daunted to learn because an adult with ugly teen makeup is less acceptable than a young girl.

You are right about doing makeup to fit current trends though. Most people don’t follow strange old retro makeup looks because they think it’s neat, they do what’s popular just like with hair or clothes. You do need to take your facial features into consideration though. People with monolids do their eye makeup totally different than someone with double eyelids would to get the same effect.

Do social people feel like constantly throwing shit at each other is some kind of therapy? I literally never hear a single positive thing about Twitter, or Facebook for that matter, but they're treated as some sort of utility, in the same way as gas and electric, with some people.

I suppose it's not all that unusual. Ancient graffiti absolutely exists, of people saying dumb phrases and other extraneous quips.
