I'm curious as to this. Also, if he can, does anybody think he'll ever purchase a firearm, and what would happen if he did?

As a Southerner, (that doesn't mean I'm a redneck I've just lived in the South all my life) It wouldn't surprise me if the state of Virginia let Chris have a gun. In the U.S a nut gets a gun every 2 seconds, and I mean people crazier than Chris. So I wouldn't be surprised. I mean I'm for the 2nd amendment, but in my opinion the south has turned gun ownership into a fucking religion, "Guns can do no wrong!, Praise guns and all there glory, hallelujah!"

That's... a really good question

I don't know how good background check laws are in Virginia. But since he has a criminal record I'm guessing it'd be very hard for him to get a gun from like a store. However from a gun show or a licensed/unlicensed dealer he could possibly procure a gun. If he really set his mind to it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Virginia
There are age restrictions on the possession of firearms and some people are prohibited from possessing firearms due to certain criminal convictions. Licensed dealers must have the Virginia State Police conduct a background check prior to completing the sale of certain firearms. Persons who are not in the business of selling firearms, but make occasional, private sales, are not required to perform a background check before selling their firearms. Before July 1, 2012, a person could not purchase more than one handgun per 30-day period, though some exceptions applied; most significantly, holders of valid Concealed Handgun Permits (CHP) from Virginia were exempt from this restriction.[1][2] The bill that repealed the "one-handgun-a-month law" was signed into law by Governor Bob McDonnell on February 28 of that year.[16]

If he did he'd shoot somebody. If Chris wanted a gun he'd want it for some autistic reason, like Michael Snyder cutting him off in traffic.

What if Chris owned a firearm is a different question than "Can Chris own a firearm"

Since if he owned a firearm everyone would answer "He'd shoot that dang dirty Michael Snyder". Whereas can he own one is a more interesting question considering he's autistic and has a criminal record.

I hope he can't but I can only imagine that he can. His conviction wasn't a felony was it?

Perhaps I shouldn't have complicated the issue. I'm sorry, I should have made a seperate thread.

Class 5 Felony charge - Failing to stop after an accident where the damage exceeds $1,000 in value, from hitting Snyder with the vehicle.
ASSAULT: (MISDEMEANOR) (§ 18.2-57. Assault and battery.[6])
Class 1 Misdemeanor charge - Attempted or actual assault against another person, perhaps Snyder.
TRESPASS AFTER FORBIDDEN (§ 18.2-119. Trespass after having been forbidden to do so; penalties.[7])
Class 1 Misdemeanor charge - Trespassing on land or within an area from which the offender is forbidden, no doubt due to setting foot in The GAMe PLACe.

Either a felony conviction or being adjudicated mentally deficient would prevent him from passing a background check.
If his felony charges from 28 OCT 11 were deferred, then it wouldn't prevent him from passing a background check. However, if he received a suspended sentance, it would prevent him, because it still counts as a felony conviction, only the punishment is suspended. Also, his being court-ordered to obtain psych treatment or consuling may impact his ability to pass a background check. Virginia's great about background checks anyway. As an example, remember this guy?

Beg pardon, what do you mean by, "he already has bob's guns.". Does he actually now possess firearms? What's the backstory on that?

He was making a joke. Bob likely didn't have any guns, he was just a redneck and it's funny to think of Bob hoarding guns like Barb hoards useless shit.

Plus everyone knows Bob's weapon of choice was the axe.

I can't argue with your assessment of Bob's preferred weapon. However, given the fact that he was an southern white male, and one who had served in the military at that, I wouldn't have been too suprised to find that he owned firearms.
Chris found a hooker on backpage.com, (allegedly) so I suppose he could find a somebody selling a firearm on armslist.com. He does have transportation, and some guns are only $200-300, so he could probably cough up the money for one if he really wanted it. However, I just don't see him ever desiring firearms ownership, and certainly not being capable of it. (responsibly, at least) It's still a scary thought though. Are there any experts in Gun law or Virginia law here?

If Chris decided to shoot someone he'd probably use the megatron pistol with the full expectation that it'd kill them. When it failed to do so, he would blame Megan.

I hope that's all that ever happens. My assessment is that Chris has become increasingly volatile over time, and is mentally and behaviorally decaying at an exponentially increasing rate. In other words, at the rate he's going downhill, who knows what he'll be capable of in the near future?

I stand corrected, good Sir. However, I feel any current desire on Chris's part to own a firearm would be more of a passing whim. He might be theoretically capable of locating and buying a firearm, but if he currently has the consistency of mind, planning skills, and will to follow through on such an endeavor are doubtful in my opinion, and remain to be seen. I believe this situation may change in the future.

After Barb dies, Chris will probably become more assertive, and that could change.
