Many people throughout history have debated whether money can buy happiness. I don't have the answer but I think that there is a possibility that money can buy happiness and the reason why we think it doesn't is because nouveau riche are unable to figure out how to buy happiness as it may be a very esoteric process. (alternatively happiness it just cocaine and it is completely buyable but illegal)

How do you define happiness?

No, but it can buy things that make you happy. My vidya makes me happy, my house makes me happy, my cat occasionally doesn't make me mad. All these things cost me money. My wife makes me happy and she's kinda expensive. Basically money can improve your quality of life and therefore your happiness. A lot of it depends on your personal attitude, it's possible to be poor and happy as much as it's possible to be rich and miserable.

Depends on who's doing the buying. You could give Chris a million dollars and he'd never have what he truly wants because a great deal of what he wants is childish nonsense. Sure, with that kind of money he could find people willing to humor him, but when the money was gone he'd have nothing to show for it. Now, you could give that money to someone who derives happiness from helping other people, (and a million dollars could help quite a few people.) and they'd still derive happiness from that money long after it was spent.

Money gives you greater choice in your life so in a way yes, for example living in a nice house in a nice neighbourhood instead of a poor area full of crime or traveling in first class flight instead of economy.

But money doesn't solve all problems and isn't as important as good health (Physical and mental).

Money can't but happiness, but it can buy the speedboat that takes you to happiness island.

Money affords you security and peace of mind. Money allows you to do what you want, where you want, with whom you want.

Money can buy happiness, but it's merely one path to happiness. Some people can be happy without it.

The reason people think money makes one unhappy is that chasing after money often makes somebody unhappy.

It's the acquisition of money, not the ownership of money, that is torturous (jobs, careers)

My mom always said it didn't necessarily buy happiness, but it bought opportunity which can lead to happiness

Money can solve your financial worries. Now that you don't have to worry about money, you can work on ways of becoming happy: Finding a hobby, mending relationships, creating relationships, traveling, etc.

Money can't make you feel happy, but it can really fucking help.

From personal experience I can tell you that "More money = more problems" is 100% correct, unless you are talking enough where you'd have to really fuck up to never work again (like 10s of millions or more). It definitely helps being able to not worry about making ends meet, and more money definitely helps, but the more you make, the more you worry about managing it, who your real friends are, what happens when the gravy train derails, etc... It doesn't really make problems go away, but it makes old problems go away and be replaced with new ones. I can go into more detail if you care.

I'm always willing to hear the opposite side. I'll just say that being broke sucks.
