Only downside is that you have to dye it a brighter colour at first to get that nice pastel look after a few washes. If you just go dye it a pastel colour you run the risk of washing everything out and just being blonde.

But I agree, pastel colours are less dangerish and more people should try them.
This isn't necessarily true. You can mix white with the colours to get a pastel shade first go. I've done easy mesh pastel pink on platinum blonde so that it was blonde with fine pastel pink highlights.

I don't have any bleached hair, it's just shitty genes are making my scalp spit out white hairs, and they're really obvious because I have black hair. With the exception of my temples, they're not clumped together, they're just here and there. I hate the way it looks and it ages me. It doesn't come it at the roots like normal roots, the dark hair still comes in at the roots, but the white hairs come in here and there like weeds, make more sense? It's like salt and pepper hair, except starker because there's not that much white, no grey, just naturally black hair with annoying wiry whites wherever they feel like popping up. To better explain it, I have curly hair, and there might be only one or two whites per ringlet.

I can't just color my hair the natural color, even salon dyed darkest brown-black still looks goth. I've tried going lighter, which doesn't make my hair lighter, but does turn the whites a golden shade, which is less aging and obvious. But I was thinking of giving this a try: https://overtone.co/collections?type=coloringConditioner&colorCategory=fantasy&color=teal in the pastel so that only the white hairs would absorb the color (If I used a darker color, it would probably give my hair an overall tinge of whatever color), and it might look interesting. As long as these hair weeds are going to stick out, maybe make them interesting? I don't know.

I haven't colored my hair since before covid, and just cut it, so I doubt there's any color left in it at this point.

Your hair will end up tinted whatever color you try to put in your greys/whites, and even though your hair is black, it's only black for hair- it's not sucking in 99% of visible light. So it depends, if your hair is a cool black and it suits your skin, teal might be okay. If cool black is going to clash with your skin, that teal conditioner won't do you any favors- but teal in general isn't a super flattering color. You might consider getting highlights to help blend the greys out, make it all look more intentional.

IMO, well groomed people with wacky hair colors but good overall style aren't danger hairs. It does get more danger-y as you get older, though, up to some point where you've earned being a wrinkly eccentric in purple glitter spandex.

Thanks for the advice! I don't want the rest of my hair tinted, so you've convinced me to just do my usual and go with a medium-light brown. I don't want it to look weird or danger-y. I forgot to mention the reason I was even considering a fun color to begin with: I take a chemotherapeutic drug for an autoimmune disease, and it's made me lose a ton of hair, and my dose was just doubled. The fun color was meant to cheer me up since my hair's gotten so thin. But I don't want to look weird, I was aiming for somewhat trendy, not "look at me!" and I'm definitely not at the age where I've earned wacky eccentricity. I think those wrinkly, neon-glittered women are fabulous, but that'll never be me at that age; I don't have the personality to go with it.

Thanks again for the advice!!

I’ve never thought about using hair dye myself. Even if I wasn’t a guy, I love my natural hair color too much to change it, and its not like gingers and hair dyes are a good combination. That being said, if you aren’t fat, a commie, or a guy, you can probably look good with hair dye.

I had some classmates in middle/high school who dyed their hair red/green/purple/blue whatever. Back then, it was just an aesthetic choice. We were all kids who listened to bands like Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, and Hawthorne Heights. Having brightly coloured hair standing in stark contrast with the usual blacks and greys of the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s was just par for the course.

Given that, I think it's okay if you're a kid/teenager/early college student and you just wanna stand out. But it's still a pretty fucking good idea to dial back on that shit if you're in your mid-to-late 20s, looking for a serious career, and also advocating for lofty causes. Some people can pull it off, don't get me wrong. However, they tend to be the exception and not the rule in these cases.

The fact of the matter is that so many of these "dangerhairs" are so fucking short-sighted when it comes down to their aesthetic choices. I've certainly looked at some tattoo patterns and thought to myself "whoa, that looks sick!" only to bring myself back to reality when I remember tattoos are permanent and fucking expensive. Dyeing your hair can seem fun in the short-term, but the short-term eventually crosses over into the long-term. Imagine how difficult your life can get if you're seriously trying to start a career and recruiters just turn a blind eye to your application because you showed up to the interview looking like a rave glowstick.

I won't deny that there's an argument to be made for normalising personal aesthetic choices like bright hair, tattoos, and piercings in the workplace. However, that won't change the fact that the most high-paying professions aren't necessarily forgiving of those aesthetic choices unless you're in a real position of power. Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and most retail jobs don't give a shit about your personal appearance, but that's because you're an expendable drone. Billy the Exterminator was only able to get away with looking like a glam rock star from the late 80s because he's part-owner of a family business.

Dye your hair whatever color you want and stop giving a shit about what other people think about it. I have a neon green streak in my hair because I like neon green and my job doesn't care. I honestly don't care if someone looks at me and thinks I'm a dangerhair.

i think it depends upon the vibrance/brightness & amount. a full head of neon pink strikes me as a dangerhair. but muted colors, small streaks/highlights of color, etc. is normal. ive known plenty of brunette women who get light plum-purple highlights & it looks very natural. i think if you consider how the color will look with your natural tone, it’ll look normal. also, never dye your eyebrows. never.

If i saw someone with a dyed hair in my country i would not think she is a dangerhair at all since that meme is really only relevant depending on the culture around it, it mostly has to do with american politics, here it still would be the traditional ones : Weebs, metalheads, punks. Those people here are not the usual soy sjw wingnuts from reddit, a lot of weebs are actually very right wing, is funny how that changes in America versus latinamerica. I had friends with dyed hair and they old would make fun of the retarded shit commie americans will post on twitter and they were not PC at all.

A lot of normal ass women just dye their hair red or would have streaks just because they like the look and because like i said, theres really no pervasive stereotype against it like the "dangerhair" label, it still really depends on the individual wether they wear it good or they look cringy, two women can have the same dye and give off wildly different impressions.

I personally think is kinda a young girl thing, it looks awkward i someone over 30, older women with weird colors will give off different vibes, also, neon colors, it looks cuter with muted tones and neon is always about wanting to attention whore, also it never looks good on males, i've seen kids with zoomer cuts and dyed hair and with them i do have the prejudice and think they probably are virtue signaling homosexuals or furfags, it looks reagly ugly on men either way.

Unless they can't be seen in the first place, then dye them at least enough to be seen...

From listening to 'normal' guys talk about chicks with coloured hair, yeah at this point in time, if you are a 'normal' chick, don't even think about any colours other than the standard natural type of colours.

Especially don't go anywhere near purple of any sort. I've heard conversations where guys will not go near a chick who's favourite colour is purple (as well as the addition of things, like being in love with Jack Skellington), let alone dying their hair that colour.

P.S. Punctuation is a thing on KF.

Typically, Australia is 10 years behind Americans (although this is growing shorter), but even here the dangerhair is taking off, there is definitely the assumption that dyed hair = sjw/transtrender (especially if you are Victorian, the Cali of Australia).

Exactly. Who gives a fuck what color your hair is? If it doesn’t interfere with your work dress code, and your personality isn’t actually dangerhair-y or anything what’s the big deal? I see people say “I don’t approach people if they simply have colorful hair” and my first thoughts are good, they probably don’t want someone like you to do so anyway. Win-win.

Our millennial intern went for neon peach hair during lockdown. She does great work and is very professional. (She is also defiantly 150lb+ over what she should be. But she seems cool.) I will admit I thought she was going to be a pain in the arse, but it turns out she's just a nice, proactive and driven young person. Seems to be getting on with her life, despite being a big fat woman with neon hair. She is literally the antithesis of a cow.

Legit, everytime I'm going through a bad time - I dye my hair some dumbass colour. It's reached that point where whenever I dye my hair, my mum actually asks me if things are okay because she *knows*.
Anyway, I dyed my hair blue yesterday. Looks nice, I've done it before, it goes with my eyes.
I think if anybody saw me and refused to vibe with me because of my hair colour, I'd pretty much just see that as their problem. It's funny how common it is for fucking batshit people to have 'dangerhair' but ultimately there's more to it than just that.
I might have bright blue hair but I don't have half my head shaved, ear stretchers, ugly-ass tattoos and an attitude/gender problem

I saw a woman at work last summer whose hair was a pastel (almost sort of metallic) lavender with some pale ice blue highlights around her bangs. I can't describe the hairstyle itself but her hair was straight, and she herself was a lighter-skinned African American woman. Her skin tone, hairstyle, and face shape actually made the color look good on her. I was impressed that she was able to pull off an unnatural color without looking like trailer trash or a dangerhair.

So yes, it is possible. You just have to match the right colors with your skin tone and other features.

Don't you think people with ear stretchers and shaved heads would like to not be judged too?
