Candles - And other nice smelling shit you can set on fire

I have lots of candles but I rarely use them. I like the idea of them but I'm not really a fan of placing extra hazards in my living space. Plus i have stupid cats as well.

I do use incense quite frequently though, i prefer hippy stench to the smell of air fresheners and it blends in with my husband's perpetual weed cloud a bit better

I prefer wax warmers myself, they burn more evenly and you can turn it off whenever without worrying about uneven burning. I also find them cheaper, and last longer than candles. Also the wax warmers can be switched out with holiday themed ones that are very cute. I also use plug in warmers in the bathroom and in the kitchen near the trash to help keep it smelling fresh.

I live in rural land, we have multi day power outages sometimes several times a year. I love Ikea candles... seriously, I have these strategically placed around my house

Otherwise, I prefer a pot of water on the stove with some oils occasionally.

I'd love to have candles but I have handsy children (a.k.a. toddlers) and wax melts are a pain to clean.

Candles are essential to my marriage. My wife likes the various scents and the ambiance they create, I like being a sappy romantic for her. They also help out in a pinch when the power cuts out.

The real sticker though is trying to find scents that both of us like. Natural scents like balsam and lavendar are no brainers but she's not the biggest fan of tropical fruity scents and spice/"fresh cookie" scents are annoying to me.
Personally I don't understand how people can enjoy the "warm cookie" scents. They're too bombastic, cloying, and artificial.
We're both pretty neutral on the "clean soapy" scents. Nice but not worth the premium of a good scented candle.

And agreed on this: I never was a fan of cupcake or cookies because of this.

The main problem with candles and living with other people really is "what can my s/o or roommate stand to smell". At least it makes a fun date to yankee candle or your prefered candle sellers to both sniff candles and compare scents?

Ah yes, the fine line between sappiness and faggy-ness. It's like the line between courage and stupidity but much gayer.

We have a Yankee Candle store nearby and have actually done that. It's a pretty fun date until you see the prices. Them fuckers are expensive.

I'm under the impression that candlesticks are back "in", especially ones in non-traditional colors/shapes. Thoughts?

I'm a fan of candles- they're especially useful for relaxing, and for covering up the "I cooked pungent food last night" smell that small apartments/houses can get.
Sidenote, are (scented) candles toxic to dogs? I've heard that scents and waxes can be toxic, and I've seen "dog-safe" candles in stores.

I'm team wax melt personally. Most of the wax melts are from smaller, "indie" brands, but I also own some Walmart wax.

The few times I buy candles are Bath and Body Works on sale. Marshmallow Fireside is my best bitch, especially on rainy nights. I've had pretty rotten luck with Yankee Candle.

I feel lucky that my spouse and I don't disagree on scents too much. I think a lot of scent depends on the room its in... I like citrus for the kitchen, linen for the bathroom, something soft and powdery for the bedroom... husband likes "tobacco" for the man-cave. Something seasonal for the living room.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds baked stuff candles repulsive.

And if you are into tealight candles, I highly recommend the stonebriar brand on Amazon, they have been my go-to for years. Only $15 for 100 candles, and these lil fuckers burn for about 8 hours

I think they're fun, but won't last too long in households without an appreciation for kitsch or an eye for home decor on how to make them work in the home. The top candle looks like a pain to clean if not burnt properly.

I really appreciate candlemakers who put out masculine leaning scents. Men being able to enjoy a more romantic hobby of women is great for all parties relaxationwise and all people who've ever had one hell of a bathroom trip.

And ooh, love me some wacky bulk buys.
