Carbon Fiber vs Stainless Steel -

Carbon fiber is lighter and way less heat absorbent than SS. I'd love to see gun furniture move over to CF in a more uniform way, for instance. I think CF is stronger than SS, so I guess the only real obstacle would be logistics (i.e. cost and sourcing).

I think the epoxy would break immediately on a carbon fiber drill bit and without that the carbon fiber mesh would just start flailing around.

Depends almost entirely on what you want to do, how you want to do it, and the context in which you do it. There isn't even one type of stainless steel.

Not even one type of carbon fiber, you can use many types of polymer as a base, and weave the fibers in different ways.

I love carbon fiber, but different applications require different tolerances, so what's the use case here? Cars? Guns? Furniture? Cooking utensils?

If we're talking car parts, then I definitely noticed a difference in handling and power from a dead stop, when I replaced my doors and hood on my car with CF.

Stainless holds up to wear and tear better IMO. Looks cooler, too. Carbon Fiber is too "Monster Energy" for my taste.

I don't think you can use carbon fiber for smoking crack. Steel wool wins, no contest.

CF is useful for shaving weight on shit that isn't framework, where SS does its best work. In reality, using both where SS is set up to be the frame/form while CF is used to fill the gaps and stop over-flex.

But Carbotanium is the best of both worlds and hyper expensive

Lol SpaceX changed their Starship design to use Stainless Steel instead of Carbon Fiber.

Yeah, because austenitic stainless steel gets stronger at cryogenic temperatures.

It really depends on the scope and budget of the project it is used for.

Stainless steel is cheap, easy to manufacture, and simple to incorporate into a design. Carbon fiber is harder to manufacture and more expensive but is lighter and stronger under most loads. Personally, I like carbon fiber better for its material properties and aestetic appeal but stainless steel is a good alternative if cost is a major factor.
