Noticed this showed up recently and wasn't sure where to play it at but figured this is the right spot, apparently this guy's getting time for having duped Dreamworks to think they stole and idea he had previously copied out of a Lion King coloring book!

That's why I posted this! I figured it would gauge some response in that direction. Of course Chris hasn't sued Sega for millions at ripping off his characters! He's not that smart!

Seems that way, at least Claude was able to back up his claim with the records he managed to save of his time trying to sell his cartoon to Cinar in the 80's. This guys just looks like he was copying crap out of a Timon and Pumbaa coloring book and sent those as copyrighted proof after seeing the Kung Fu Panda trailer.

Heck even this character looks like Timon with different ears and some martial arts crap stuck on!

It's probably stated elsewhere online (there's at least a few articles on this), though I'm not sure how much he spent on his end if he expected $12 mil from Dreamworks.

25 years is the maximum possible sentence. I doubt they'll go all the way.

Throw in multiple felonies like wire fraud and perjury and it adds up pretty quick. He'd have to get the maximum sentence for each one plus also be sentenced consecutively, which is really, really unlikely.

He should still do some time, though.

Filing a bullshit lawsuit is sort of an American sport and you don't get time for that, but mocking up fake evidence and perjured oaths to back up your bullshit lawsuit really deserves some time behind bars.

I suggested elsewhere this could be a Timon & Pumbaa coloring book given that show came around around the same time this image did (1996), so yeah, not Lion King, but based on characters from it.

Yeah after the Lion King, Timon and Pumba got a show where they weren't in any concrete setting they just kind of went around and did stuff and there were other animals in it (I don't think any of them lasted more than an episode but it was so long ago I can't remember)

Apparently this one image of a giant panda from the book was enough for this guy to create his character around, and simply needed a design for the other panda and Timon looked appropriate before he made him more like Master Shifu later on.
