Cashless society -

Are we better off without cash? Are some people right about pushing society towards a cashless society? Should we still use cash for some purposes but use cashless payments for most other purposes? Etc.

Assuming the government isn't going to use it to implement social credit or increase taxes, mostly. You could make society much more convenient, but I guess you'd lose out on allowance money for kids or odd jobs.

Society is already mostly cashless. Most people use credit cards/debit cards/online payment processors for transactions.
Money needs to still exist though, because you actually own it instead of some 3rd party entity like Paypal being able to strip it away for 6 months for any random fucking reason and locking you out completely, and because you can be free of government, corporate, and other forms of tracking that are incredibly invasive.
Also consider that peer transactions and smaller businesses don't offer digital methods of payment, so money also exists to be compatible with their choices as well.

If physical money dies, then its going to be a bad time for everyone. More convenient, certainly, but it will come with many very bad implications.

And that doesn't even touch on the fact spending cash is actually painful, and swiping isn't.
As in people using cards spend nearly twice as much as people who pay cash.

In the grand scheme of human history, "cash" is a relatively new thing. Even when coins or abstract numbers of credit started to be used, people still traded items for items, whether it be crops or crafts. So, you can still get by on a face-to-face trades without the technical stuff we have now.

As for progressing into a cashless society? That depends. I don't see cash going anywhere, since its used for a ton of illegal activity, as well as just being good for everyday use (despite what technophiles may say). Nor do I see cards going anywhere, in favor of device-based transactions. People may be lazy, but they know that if your phone is at 0%, you'd be effectively broke.

If we go cashless, some other physical good is going to substitute for cash, like cigarettes or Tide laundry detergent. Just like in the prison or the hood.
