From Arnold Schwarzenegger to Donald Trump (in the USA alone), there have been several celebrities who went on to become politicians. What are your opinions about them in general?
Would you prefer them over career politicians for positions within your country?

Name recognition seems to be something of an asset for people trying to attain election to public office, so it is no surprise that some celebrity have been able to parlay their existing name recognition into votes. In some ways, maybe for political career, it's better to be known and reviled than to be a nobody that no one recognizes

It's okay to change career, not every politician has to have a background of lawyer or doctor. The problem with celebs is that they often make use of their celeb status either to gain votes or to gain benefits that come with joining politics, instead of laying low. If I'd have to say a comparison it'd be Berlusconi (business man and tv guy, joined politics to fix his Mediaset affairs) and Carfagna (calendar model), who was actually good and did pretty well as minister, never bringing up her previous job.

It's not a shock people with egos find a new way to keep in the public eye.

Regardless if you liked him or not as mentioned before Reagan jumped into it seriously, one could say while holding no official office someone of that era also falls into it, like Chuck Heston, imho someone like him coulda got a senate seat easy had he tried.

It's more the nature/problem of politics. I don't mind much honestly because they are just a different flavor of snake going in.
