I love to make my own bath stuff. I make bomb-like goodies. I mix in citric acid, baking soda, cornflour and salts (I use Epsom or Pink Himalayan) together and then I add a carrier oil (I like almond or coconut) and some nice essential oils until it is moist enough to hold a shape. I then put them in a mould so they form a shape and within about a day or so they're good to go. They last ages and smell amazing! You can also add dried lavander, rose petals, seaweed etc and some colouring to make them pretty!

Could someone recommend a good place (UK) to buy rose water? I'm a little bit of a novice. I do have rose essential oils and rose water tones though. :optimistic:
The home baking or Indian/Middle Eastern sections of most supermarkets sell rose water for cooking.

Long term cheap:
For exfoliation, forget various chemicals or scrubs. Go old school and get a copper bristle brush and use it everywhere except for your face (there's less harsh brushes for that area specifically) before you get in the shower every now and again. It is by no means soft or pleasant to use (on the contrary), but it scrapes off every dead skin cell you've ever had and leaves the surface soft, clean and well circulated (if you missed a spot, you'll know. It's the one spot where you don't look like a lobster).
If you have a SO, brushing one another can be nice (while you are the one brushing, heh).

Apply a moisturizer after the shower if you are so inclined. Give the brush a good whacking every now and again to get the old dead cells out and those ~20-40$ you spent on a high quality copper body brush will last you for many many years.
It is being marketed for all kinds of nonsense using various senseless trend-terms (Ions! Alcaline! ENERGY CHANNELS!!!!!), but it works well for the purpose of keeping a person's skin nice.

I have made homemade scalp exfoliants from oil (coconut, virgin) and sugar/salt to mixed results. The best results I've gotten so far is actually dishwashing soap that is safe for skin (handwashing), typically Dawn. If you have dyed hair, use the Dawn soap a wash or two before you re-dye or recolor, since the dish soap can strip color from your hair (not severely, depending on the quality of your color job, but it will lighten it).

A few that are effective:

-If you use at-home hair colouring (hey, we've all been there, some of us may STILL be there), witch hazel on a cotton pad will beautifully get rid of any colouring you get around your scalp and on your skin;

-rosewater and glycerin (you can usually find this as a singular combo at the pharmacy) in a glass spray bottle is an excellent facial moisturizer, and costs almost nothing compared to other brand-name hydrating facial spritzes;

-honey and sugar in equal parts makes a lovely facial scrub...rinse with warm water, and you get to lick the spoon afterward;

-if you have any tubes of lipstick that are almost done, scoop out the remains and mix with some Vaseline into a small pot. You'll have instant tinted lip gloss;

-I've said this before, but hair conditioner makes an incredible substitute for shaving cream;

-throw a cup of vinegar into your wash instead of fabric softener, and always do a cold-water wash. Your laundry will be fresher than you've ever imagined.

I make my own nail/cuticle oil. It’s 2 parts jojoba oil and 1 part squalane. I sometimes add vitamin E oil to thicken it up, but it’s not necessary. I also use this for dry patches on my skin and on my heels. It works very well for me, and it absorbs fairly quickly

msm (Methylsulfonylmethane/ organic sulfur) powder.

(this is the brand i use cost me about $8 from amazon.)

cant recommend this stuff enough, start out with a small spoon ( the one included in the tub) to avoid getting migraines.

mix it with 8oz of juice, (milk/ water doesnt mask the flavor and might make it hard to drink)

been using this around 2 months now built up to mixing 3-4 small spoons in 8oz of juice every morning, and its done wonders for my hair and skin, length, shin, and thickness.

Fascinating!

You may already be eating foods that naturally contain sulfur or MSM. Common foods rich in this compound include:
  • coffee
  • beer
  • tea
  • raw milk
  • tomatoes
  • alfalfa sprouts
  • leafy green vegetables
  • apples
  • raspberries
  • whole grains
