So, to get this ball rolling, I'm about halfway through the latest season of Orange is the New Black, and I don't feel like the concept for this season is working all that well. I want to like it, and there are some genuinely great moments in every episode, but I feel like the show is almost a parody of itself, a lot of the time. Also, a lot of good characters have been reduced to comic relief, which is kind of lame. I'm reserving judgement on the season until I'm done, but it feels a lot like a failed experiment.

I just watched the season premier of Orphan Black, and considering that it was the opening episode of the final season of the snow, it was underwhelming, and it retread a lot of already well-covered ground.

Has anyone been watching The Handmaid's Tale? I read the book in high school, so I know how depressing the subject matter is, and I haven't been able to convince myself it's worth it, to watch a show that will probably make me feel miserable.

I'm only episode 3 or 4 and I don't know if I'm going to keep watching. The last seasons were so binge worthy and this just can't keep my attention and make me want more. It's trying too hard to mix edginess and comedy - people complained that there wasn't enough humor in the last seasons and I guess they want the controversial factor so it's resulted in this edgelord mess that just feels like a parody of itself.

I really hate how Poussey's storyline has been sidelined already - like Tasty has been so rightfully emotional over it and everyone else is ignoring it in favor of sticking their fingers up guards' asses and talking about Hot Cheetos. I understand that it's sort of realistic in the sense that most people don't know Poussey so they don't care but even the other black girls are ignoring it, it's so frustrating. And Crazy Eyes' "tribute" felt so cheesy and ingenuine.

I never got on to the second season of Orphan Black but loved the first one, I need to catch up.

Poussey, a lot of the time, felt like the soul of the show, and its conscience, so it almost kind of makes sense that losing her would make everyone act a fool, but there isn't much actual mourning going on, and that feels like a cheat. Brook and Taystee shouldn't be the only ones who really care that she's gone.

I'm caught up on both of these shows so far, except for this new episode of Orphan Black. Season 4 didn't feel like a whole lot of new to me either, but I'll end up watching Season 5 because I feel too invested and I've been enjoying it.

I can't say how The Handmaid' s Tale compares to the book, but I'm a fan of Elizabeth Moss, which is why I initially gave the show a try. As depressing as the subject matter is, I would recommend it.

Perhaps not a chick show, but I've been watching American Gods too. Again, I can't compare to the book, and I feel like it's slow going and somewhat confusing, but I still recommend it.

I'm halfway through the latest OITNB (can we avoid spoilers for a bit as it's so recently out?). Overall, it's... fine. Definitely some amusing bits but I agree with it almost feeling like a parody. I may have been spoiled by Wentworth (goes by Wentworth Prison in some countries I think). It's an Australian show, an homage of sorts to Cell Block H, with chicks in prison but much grittier with really tense moments. I've not seen the latest season yet though.

I'm loving American Gods. Same with Better Call Saul. Not started the newest Orphan Black. It's not my favourite show but I do like how she plays the characters and they feel like different people.

The 100 is a guilty pleasure. Season 3 was disappointing but I'll watch 4 at some point regardless. So much tv, not enough time.

Music-wise, I like rock and 80s stuff. I've had this in my head all day though and it's a sexy chick song I guess?

My brother's girlfriend called The Handmaid's tale "A Hunger Game's rip-off directed by a diehard Jane Austin Fan" and it felt right on the money

Also for a straight old dude I make a lot of Mean Girls references, I should get help

How about RuPaul's motherfuckin' Drag Race? I see so many avatars of queens on here. I stupidly bumped into, then voraciously consumed, a huge spoiler-filled write-up of the finale this past weekend. Still looking forward to the reunion and finale, though.

I can sperg for ages about the Handmaid's Tale. The show is a lot more uplifting than the book imo and the main character gets her moments of rebellion. Plus the soundtrack is awesome (but I'm a sucker for Peaches so). The book is better but the show makes me able to visualize a lot more how the dystopia came about.

I love Wentworth! Or Wentworth Prison as it is here (UK). The first series in particular was amazing. Series Five has just started here, it's become a bit sillier and a bit more OTT than it was in the beginning but it's still great viewing.

I'm planning to watch the Handmaid's Tale in a big catchup session, I'm glad it sounds worth it. The trailers looked great. I quite like the book, but I hate Atwood's snooty attitude towards being told it's science fiction.

Oh, and I adore Love Island and I'm not sorry.

I just finished up the finale season of "the leftovers" and I can easily say it was one of the most awesome, worthwhile shows I have ever watched. It was bleak, beautiful, witty as fuck, sarcastic as hell, absurd in perfect ways, the cast was amazing and the soundtrack was epic. I didn't think TV could be this good tackling this type of subject matter.

I only recommended the show to certain people during Season 1 or 2 because I knew it wasn't the type of show some people would get into and I wasn't sure they would be able to pull off a satisfying ending, but seeing how it was done with the last season - everyone should watch it - from start to finish immediately, with no delay. Unlike most shows, it got better with every season - with the third being the absolute best, great writing and acting at it's apex.

To give you an idea the only other fiction series I would recommend this strongly are The Wire and Breaking Bad. I actually give The Leftovers, in some respects, more credit because they tackled extremely difficult issues of belief, faith and death in ways that are almost always done poorly, are sappy or heavy handed but this show managed to hit the perfect pitch and did so intelligently. Throw in the non-reality elements they included, which are so fucking hard to do well. The series gave you the feeling of reading an amazing novel, and that's a really, really rare feat.

I know the audience wasn't large for this show, it definitely got labeled with a cult status label, but I have not heard from one person that didn't become a huge fan if they watched it all. (I think it has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, to give an idea of what a wider audience thought of it.)

I wondered how it'd be after the major finale of season 4. I can't wait to get stuck in! Have you tried Locked Up? It's available on All4 in the box sets section. A Spanish (subtitled) show about women in prison. Similar vibe to Wentworth but a chunk of it is set outside with the family and police. It's really good with lots of "how can this possibly get any worse for them... oh that's how" moments. I'm gutted they only made two seasons then it got cancelled but it wraps up pretty well.

I watch so many shows that my friends don't and it's so annoying having nobody to chat to about them. It doesn't fall under stereotypically 'girly' but Black Sails is amazing too and another where I need to catch up with the last season. Great mix of drama with comedic moments (reminds me of Vikings in that regard).

I haven't seen Locked Up but I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the tip! Sounds really appealing.

I've started watching the fifth season a bit back (since its the earliest available season on Amazon Prime). My friend is REALLY obsessed with it though, so it turns me off a bit. Regardless I still like it although I couldn't give less of a shit of the Alyssa Edwards/Coco Montrese feud. Both need to get their heads out of their asses. Ivy's my favorite so far.

Also the OP reminded me how obsessed I was with America's Next Top Model as a teen. To the point where I denied that it was a sham of a modeling competition and the fact that I was sad that I would never get to be on there because I was too short. Also fuck Cycle 8. Jaslene was a bitch who looked like a concentration camp survivor. Natasha was robbed.

Have you seen Top of the Lake? It's a miniseries that starred Elizabeth Moss and it's getting a sequel soon. I'm pretty sure it's on Netflix.

I keep meaning to get Starz so I can watch American Gods. I am a huge Hannibal fan, so I worship at the altar of Bryan Fuller.

Jaslene looked like a dude. She always looked terrible in person, but the camera clearly loved her.

Does anyone watch Grace and Frankie on Netflix? I think it's funny, and I binge watch it every time a season is released. I haven't watched OITNB yet. Is OITNB worth watching? Or is it a series that starts off really well and then as seasons continue, it sucks?

Top of the Lake was when I became an Elizabeth Moss fan haha. I saw something about the sequel, but I forgot about it until you just mentioned it. I'll be checking it out for sure.

The only Netflix show I've watched obsessively was Bojack Horseman.
I also started The Crown and got through a few episodes of The Get Down but anything else? Eh, nah.

I'm just waiting for The Walking Dead to start up again. It's pretty much the only current show I watch, everything else is from the 70's-80's. Or YouTube.
