Fly, my pretties!

I'm assuming everyone here has heard about the hideous shooting in California last week. Basically, some misogynist douchenozzle got pissed off because women refused to have sex with him, and proceeded to kill six people. I've been following the case pretty closely, and the more I read about this guy, the more I'm finding a creepy resemblance to OPL.

Okay, before anyone says anything: I know Chris will never shoot anyone. Even if he was smart enough to figure out a gun, he's too lazy to get one and too cowardly to ever deliberately hurt another person (I'm convinced the events of the 28th October 2011 were entirely due to Barb's influence). Also, his warped and twisted idolization of women means that I think he would never, ever raise a hand against a woman. As vile and sexist as he is, Chris is so desperate to believe that women are perfect benevolent angels that he'd never blame them for his problems and never seek to physically harm them.

However, the more I read of Rodger's deranged and misogynist rambling and life, the more I'm reminded of Chris. For example:

I'm 22 years old and I'm still a virgin. I've never even kissed a girl. I've been through college for two and a half years, more than that actually, and I'm still a virgin. It has been very torturous. College is the time when everyone experiences those things such as sex and fun and pleasure. Within those years, I've had to rot in loneliness. It's not fair.
I don't know what [women] don't see in me. I'm the perfect guy and yet you throw yourselves at these obnoxious men instead of me, the supreme gentleman.

You do deserve it. Just for the crime of living a better life than me. All you popular kids, you've never accepted me, and now you will all pay for it. And girls, all I ever wanted was to love you, and to be loved by you. I've wanted a girlfriend, I've wanted sex, I've wanted love, affection, adoration. You think I'm unworthy of it. That's a crime that can never be forgiven.

And all of you men, for living a better life than me, all of you sexually active men, I hate you. I hate all of you.

The desperation for sex. The constant wailing about how tortured and lonely he is. The condemnation of other men for "taking all the women". What's more, I found this out today:

Does that sound like somebody we know?

Again, I know Chris will never, ever do anything like this. It's too much effort, and he's too much of a coward. I just find the similarities really, really disturbing, and it really highlights to me what a hideous person Chris is.

I read the entire manifesto as well and the thing that struck me most was not the similarity of their personalities but the use of language. Rodgers definitely used some of the same patterns of language as Chris does when describing things.

Chris was desperate for a lover/mother hybrid, not sex. He had sex with a prostitute to get it out of the way. Elliot was much more narcissistic because he believed he was innately deserving of what would essentially be a servant woman. Chris felt he deserved to have a companion but for different reasons, and what he wanted was a mutually symbiotic relationship where a woman would provide for him and he would keep the household clean and the children happy. Chris' reaction to rejection was depression and bitterness, whereas Elliot's was indignation and rage leading up to bloodthirst. At no point did Chris ever want anyone to die because they didn't satisfy him, he even wished Kacey a happy life with Liquid (even if it wasn't completely genuine).

Chris was a lonely guy that wanted someone to take care of all his needs because he didn't know how.
Elliot had the world but wanted more. In the sense that a child would break his toys if his mother took them away, he saw fit to kill people because they wouldn't submit themselves to him sexually.

There's no line to be drawn here, no parallel to be had. Everyone gets lonely. Not many people kill because of it.
