This might have been discussed a bit before, especially in individual threads, but I've been thinking recently and come to the question: "What does Chris think about promises?"

Chris has made promises and then broken them (big surprise). An example is when he would promise to get Sonichu pages done and then he wouldn't because "he was tired", "his biological clock was off", "his computer was done", etc etc. Or that he wouldn't eat McDonald's anymore and that changed to "I did stop eating there! I only eat there ONCE a week!!!!" I truly feel that Chris doesn't view this as breaking a promise, it's more of just not being able to do something because of a bad circumstance, so the promise wasn't "broken", it was just... nulled or something.

Now, Chris has been "promised" quite a few things: a pretty wife, an office job, a daughter, a house, a Sonichu franchise, his dad not dying for another couple of years, etc. All of these "promises" have been broken, how do you think Chris rationalizes this promises? For example: Chris was told that Julie, PandaHalo, and Bianca (and others) were real honest girlfriends and NOT TROLLS... but we all know better and Chris does too (for the most part). How does he rationalize these facts? Was God lying to him? Was God wrong? But according to the Bible that Chris loves sooooo much, God is never wrong and HE cannot lie.

Are there any other opinions on this, or can you think of any other promises Chris has broken or promises that were broken to Chris?

Chris and promises is much like Chris and negotiation. The other party must give back in full form while he gives Jack shit back. Look how many times he wouldn't keep promises to kacey.

The best example is the Jackie saga. Jackie told Chris she would be his girlfriend and fuck him if he improved, AND HE COULDN'T EVEN HOLD UP TO THE PROMISE TO IMPROVE. If he can't even hold a promise for his saved China, then he won't hold up any promise that requires effort.

Chris rationalized it because it made him feel good about himself/his decisions. If God came into a dream and said "You were born gay" he would write it off and consider it a nightmare. If God came into a dream and said "You were born to be a billionaire by doing nothing" he would believe it in a McWrap clogged heartbeat.

the reunion was BASICALLY PROMISED

Totally forgot that he was "promised" the reunion. I guess my brain just linked that he wanted the reunion because that's when he had the most 'friends'. Never did believe that promise though, I went to my prom three times (sophomore, jr, sr) and there was never a slideshow present at all. Our prom was nothing but dancing/partying and I think the only thing the teachers had any say on was the walking down the walkway and pictures.

I get that Chris uses God for his own gain, but you'd think that even Chris ... never mind, it's Chris.

When Chris uses the word "promise" it's basically his way of getting people off his back for the short term. He really feels no obligation to do something and believes his intention to possibly do something is just as good as actually doing it. When Chris was growing up expectations were low so just trying something and failing was rewarded just as much as actually doing it.

Yeah, this. Chris doesn't give a shit about the bible or god, especially nowadays when god is being such a jerk to him. :epik:

Chris believes he means his promises when he makes them, and he also believes that's good enough to earn him full credit. He can have any excuse whatsoever, and everyone else is supposed to not only understand, but also hold up their end of the bargain even if he does not. The inverse is not true: If someone promises him something, he expects them to follow through no matter what unexpected problem might occur.

Chris and promises are only in one sentence if there is the "doesn't fulfill" phrase between them.

Chris promised to come to each of our houses and bring us to full internet justice, even if we're outside the US. As far as I know, most of us are still waiting.

Hell, he still expects that even if they didn't promise anything. If someone tells him they are specifically not promising him something he wants because they will probably not be able to do it, he will still try to wheedle and manipulate them into it anyways with guilt trips and "poor me" pity rants just as if they had promised him.

No kidding. Reading the Jackie and Wallflower e-mails, Chris seems to think that a girl saying "Yeah, I guess we can meet up sometime" is a promise to meet him where and whenever he wants to see them.

I can see him jumping up in a sudden wake-up. Making the "sweaty forehead" gesture and just say "Oh... *sigh* not AGAIN!" and try to negotiate with his dream book.

The way he rationalizes it probably isn't too different from how that dude who thought the Rapture was happening back in 2011 did, if he even gives it any thought to begin with. Chris just kind of exists. I don't think his emotional or mental maturity leaves him capable of that depth of consideration. Even when he's angry with god, it's not because he hasn't lived up to giving him Crystal yet. It's that he's trying to score some cheap pity points.
