So Chris’ conduct has been brought up a lot here and the possible issues that may arise from locking him on a flight or train for a day or longer. Chris-isms aside, both are very over-stimulating and could pose problems that Chris may not be able to handle alone. I don’t really know the full range of his mental function at this current time.

@Null do you think Chris needs a tard-wrangler for the flight or train ride there? And if so, who would wrangle? Would staff need to be called and informed about his special needs?

If you think he’s capable enough to manage, I vote train (autists love em) and if he has a Switch or some portable game thing he can just fiddle-fuck around on that in between sleeping and eating and transfers. As long as he has something to occupy himself I think he shouldn’t have any issue sitting in one place for a bit

One thing is definitely for sure, I will never share plans on the forum again.
Frankly, I have a feeling that a few years ago, you'd have scoffed at such threads yourself and would have pointed out how pointless it is to attempt to help Chris or expecting him to learn from experience and eventually become able to deal with his bleak future...

I don't mean to rain on your parade, if you want to do something nice for OPL, I don't see the issue that some seem to have.
I just think it's very optimistic to expect Chris to learn this time. But if you think it's worth your time, you do you. It's not like anyone on this website can tell you no. :story:

Edit: And even if it has no lasting effect, at least Chris doesn't die in a ditch in the Rocky Mountains after falling asleep on the wheel after 30 hours of driving.

TSA website suggests you carry this card DFA3BA90-BA1A-4461-ADE5-F1720C48B3B6.jpeg
and that you call a few days in advance to utilize this service
How would you even begin to explain Chris to one of these TSA tard wranglers?
I genuinely think this service would be beneficial to Chris’s ability to successfully complete the trip. I flew alone a lot as a young child, and my parents got one of these support people to help me navigate the airport and make it on to my flight. Chris may need someone to hold his hand through the process. Just a thought.

nah, I don't think he'd have issues. I've traveled a lot and can give him pointers.

Dude, I’ve traveled on planes from islands and continents and states, and each flight gets worse and worse for me.

Every time I hear engines rev down, when the pressure changes, when the altitude dips suddenly, I get worse and worse with my little autistic shrieks.

Chris isn’t going to behave himself.

Best of luck to anyone who wants involved but Chris isn't a charity case, he's a loach.

He's burned every person who's ever tried to help him. Even this forum. When branchland caught fire(partially due to Chris's fault) the kiwis organized donations, what was Chris's response? Thanks? Gratitude? No. Disappointment and anger that he hadn't gotten more cash he could spend on toys.

Chris hasn't matured, he hasn't learned responsibility, if anything he's gotten worse as hes retreated further into isolation. His entire life he's never faced consequences. That's where his unearned sense of entitlement comes from. Chris breaks the law, community service. Chris burns his house down, donations. Chris breaks the rules, someone elses fault.

His parents have shielded him from consequence his entire life and continuing that pattern wont help him mature.

I've had plenty of friends like Chris. Selfish, lazy, self-centered. You think you're doing the right thing by helping them but your not. You help, they take a little bit more. Until eventually you give up and move on. You can't fix Chris because he doesn't want help. Even if he doesn't know any better.

I’m 2018, I did exactly what Chris was originally planning to do, drive an enourmous distance just to travel to a con. I had to board a plane from an island and take off from West Palm Beach, Florida to Dallas Texas, and it was NOT easy. But I had everyone discouraging me from driving and to just take a plane.

But I’m scared of plane travel. I was in Boston airport one day before 9/11. Had a close friend die in a crash that made national news. Singer Aaliyah died at my airport. It’s in the fucking Bermuda Triangle.

So except for leaving the island, I was staying away from air travel.

But it wasn’t worth it. Air Travel would have been better.

I get Null being there to discourage the 3000 mile drive. Of course that’s a mistake.

I just don’t know why we need to crowdfund this. We never did so for a con. Air travel across the country is only like $350 tops.

Oh well. After all this thinking and reading, ultimately I’m happy for him to go to a con, but I’m not sure why it needs to be so far in the first place.

Something I feel like I need to point out is that it normally takes about 5 days to drive across America, and Chris plans to do it in 2.
I've driven coast to coast double digit amount of times, some of them in a more shit vehicle than Chris owns. Driving the speed limit I've made it in 3 days many times. However it's been reported Chris drives like a 90 year old lady so there's no way he'd make it in that time period, not to mention I doubt he'll even get up to the 80MPH speed limit.
