High fuckin' functionally autistic

I was skimming the Mimms & Lucas Q&A earlier today when a little detail that I had never really thought about before caught my eye:

Mimms said:
Chris would rarely ever shake anyones hand after a game, and when he did, he quickly followed up with hand sanitizer.

Now I don't know a lot about autism, but this doesn't sound like unusual behavior for an autistic kid. It does, however, sound like unusual behavior for Our Pet Lolcow, the one who's afraid to take a bath. And somehow, I doubt Chris was bathing a lot in 2005 either - but apparently he was using hand sanitizer way more often that he should've been. So what do you guys think? Was Chris just being a dick? Or did he really go through a phase where he was legitimately concerned about germs?

I just chalk it up as another bizarre paradox that defines the man child known as Christian Weston Chandler. I think I remember reading from first hand accounts that Chris has been seen in public carrying a bottle of sanitizer with him.

I have always loved this one. It is the man who gave Kacey a skin rash by touching her, and yet considers himself cleaner than us non-autistic lesser men.

He likes easy, simple things. Washing your hands after touching something is easy. Spraying AXE on is easy. Maintaining a regular bathing routine is not. It allows him to incorrectly believe he's taking care of himself without actually taking care of himself.

If anything, Chris should be offering the other people the hand sanitizer.

I'd like to input that cleaning his hands may be a way of coping with the filth he's surrounded by on a daily and constant basis at home.
It becomes a compulsion after a while, and for an autist, this spells a new routine.

Actually, I remember him getting very annoyed because Bob never washed his hands.

I don't think he's a hypochondriac, he might just be a germophobe which is a pretty common thing with OCD, which usually is paired with autism. From what I understand, hypochondria is more about thinking that any minor symptom you're showing is something deadly, like if your eye is twitching that must mean you have a tumor, like that. I think in this case, he might just be afraid of germs. Like I said, it's a common OCD thing.

It definitely smacks of OCD. A method of protecting himself from the outside world or reality, like his imaginary world, perhaps?

I know a slow-in-the-mind that absolutely hates when their hands are dirty, or when they perceive their hands are dirty and MUST wash their hands or they will freak out. I'm assuming it's a pretty common thing with autistics?
I've yet to meet an autistic person that is as filthy as Chris looks.

This thread could have been titled "Chris the hypocrite" and it would have meant the same thing. He loves to pretend he's doing something that proves he's better than others, but that doesn't extend to actually bathing properly or not living in a pigsty because those things require work to change and he doesn't like work.

Well, it's not uncommon and, as has been said before, it's usually linked with OCD.

To be strictly fair, most people with autism get far more therapy than Chris-Chan ever did.

It might have been something Barb had him do that he fell out of habit of doing? He doesn't seem to mention a fear of germs or getting sick in any of his ranting or comics.

Yeah, it fits in with his feelings of superiority. It was bad enough that he had to play games with peasants, but shake hands? unthinkable!

As others have said, it's also part of his "path of least resistance" attitude to life.
Cleanliness? uses Axe and hand sanitiser. Exercise? stands up to play guitar hero. Eat healthily? sometimes gets a salad with his McDonalds. Work? draws comics.

Agreeing it's not a hypochondriac thing so much as an ocd/autism thing. I could see him not even realizing how rude he's being when he slathers on hand sanitizer after shaking someone's hand.

If anything, he could be the opposite, if such a thing exists.

He's morbidly obese, sedentary, has a terrible diet, is incapable of basic physical feats someone his age should be capable of, was prescribed Atorvastatin when he was a teenager, is incontinent, has no social life, and lives in a den of filth and animal feces... yet he doesn't seem to think there's enough of a health hazard for him to change much of these elements (besides elements his mom's tyranny forbids). Some of these aspects, I think he's even unaware of there being a problem (he thinks he's thin, strong, and that McNuggets are healthy).

If I was put on statins as a teenager, my mom would flip her shit and stop buying McDonald's completely. Being on preventable medication so young is serious shit.

Chris isn't a hypochondriac, but we already established that.

He may not like shaking hands and maybe when he was taught to wash his hands after using the bathroom when he was young his literal mind took it as something he always needs to do. Maybe washing his hands is one of the few hygienic things he does.
