For those who don't know their trolling history, David Gonterman was essentially Chris-chan v0.7; the template that would one day coalesce into our favorite, beautiful disaster. They have a lot of uncanny similarities: both emerged as creators of fascinatingly awful Sonic fanworks (Gonterman started with fanfiction, but started comics not long after), both have little creativity and a tendency to stuff nonstop references, crossovers, and plagiarism in their creations, both integrated themselves as shallow, overpowered main characters, both had child-unfriendly sex and violence in their childish works, both reacted to criticism of their work with bizarre escalation, and both generated cults of anti-fans. Anyway, I don't really have much specific to talk about here, but I have to wonder in what few ways Chris is better than Gonterman. I guess Chris gets credit for being younger; Gonterman's first canonical upload was when he was about 25-26 (1995-6) and his skills have still yet to show even a glimmer of salability. For all we talk about Sonichu being one of the worst comics ever created, I think I honestly prefer Chris's artwork. Gonterman has this very jagged, minimalistic Microsoft Paint look that is more offputting than Chris's middle school art project vibe and the scenes are often indecipherable. Also, Chris at least vaguely finished his storylines while Gonterman would constantly abandon his stuff shortly after setting up the premise. Beyond that and backhanded compliments (e.g. Chris has more dedicated followers, Chris's antics got some level of press coverage, Chris has way more... interesting perversions than Gonterman's mere hardcore fursuiting and implied incest in one of his fanfics, etc.), I'm at a loss.
