I've been looking around the Cwcki today and it started to make me wonder just how much of a grasp does he have on reality? It seems he is still very child like in some aspects. Do you think he still views some imaginary things as real?

I don't think he views them as real as much as he wishes they were real. He's pretending they are real because doing so makes him feel comfortable.

This. Chris is not disjointed from reality in the same way someone with schizophrenia/multiple personality disorder is. It's mainly because he has the mind of a young child, and it's possible his autism could be a contributing factor as well.

I don't think that he can physically see them or hear them. But I think he likes to think that fictional characters real in some way. He imagines them.

I don't know, and I kind of doubt Chris knows himself. At times of great stress, (usually involving confrontation with others) he appears to slip into his imaginary world - where he can summon Sonichu to help him, run at "top Sonic speed" and cast powerful curses on his enemies. But no one has ever questioned him closely about it that I'm aware of.

I've worked with handicapped kids, and imagining a better world for themselves (including one where their problems are worse than they are so they're a hero for overcoming them) is really common. Hell, it's common for normal kids. The problem is getting them to engage with the real world more than their fantasy world so they don't close themselves off. No one really did this with Chris besides the gal pals who pitied him in high school. Now, it's just him, his imagination, and the parade of cartoonish trolls and girlfriends that re-enforced the idea that he's the hero of his own anime who just needs to make it to the right episode for everything to be awesome.

tl;dr Chris is more comfortable as a cartoon character.

He's not really consistent. He sorta knows that his fantasies aren't real, but then he does crap like public curse-ye-ha-me-has.

^This. All we have are hints that are often contradictory. For instance, in 2008 Chris writes to his fandase:
...we will make Sonichu and Rosechu and their world being more Real than I was able to make them by myself with pen and markers in hand, and a vasly-knowledgeable imagination.

A few months later, in the powerpoint presentation he made for Nintendo:
Real-Life, I have crafted the Original Sonichu Medallion from Crayola Model Magic Clay, Acrylic Paints, Keyrings, Super-Glue and Necklace, and it does not grant me any powers.

Chris's belief in the reality of Cwcville, and his own supernatural powers, appears to be dependent on the audience he's addressing. But who really knows? I don't think there's enough data to say either way.

I think it might be as simple as his beliefs change to suit his mood and circumstances. Chris owes himself no logical consistency. If it's pleasing to him to think something, he indulges that thought and expects reality to morph around him.

He's just a kid, and he sometimes gets caught up in his make-believe - or doesn't know when to stop playing. I think in his heart of hearts he knows that Sonichu and Rosechu aren't real, CWCville isn't an actual town in Virginia, and so on.

The part where he reassures Nintendo that the medallions don't give him powers, that's just his ego and autism at work. He clearly thought that his audience would take Comic Chris's adventures as literal fact and informed them otherwise.

He actually makes this thoughts on this pretty clear and fairly consistent in the Alec calls: every time a writer creates a character that character is magically brought into existence in a parallel reality where fictional characters live, as portrayed in the documentary "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". To deny this simple truth is naive.

I imagine when he "talks" to these characters he's imagining what they would say, and then attributing that thought to the imaginary character. He probably actually thinks Sonichu is communicating with him.

This isn't as crazy as it sounds. Well, okay, yeah, it's completely as crazy as it sounds but it's not as far fetched. Lots of way less mentally damaged people believe in way more intricately insane bullshit along the same lines. Google otherkin before you tell me that this idea is too crazy even for Chris. There are people out there with jobs who actually believe they're the astral-girlfriend of Sepheroth. Which is crazy, because I'm the astral-girlfriend of Sepheroth.

It would be easy to say that Chris treats his characters as alive in the same way that other creative folks see theirs (Edward Albee, for example, says he doesn't begin writing until his characters start talking to him).

It would be easy, save for the fact that Chris is not particularly creative.

but yet he believes that alec's characters are not true to what he drew. he thinks they are just actors forced to live out alec's "demented" whims.

Yeah but he still thinks they exist. The only way the weird actor scenario even works is if the fictional characters are real beings with independent thoughts.

The way I see it is that Chris believes his Autism simply frees him from the shackles of social norms. For the most part, Chris genuinely knows what's expected of him as an adult, but he wants to behave like a child, because being a child is safe, comfortable and pleasant. It's almost like he views autism is like owning a licence to behave in this way. Kind of like owning a drivers licence allows you to drive a car.

He's quite happy to be an adult when it suits him, driving, getting china, or when that aspergers volunteer ask him who his caretaker was. But the moment he's expected to put any effort into something, do anything counter to his wishes or simply grow the fuck up... BANG! Autism to the rescue!

I wouldn't say otherkin/soulbonders are less mentally damaged than Chris. There's definitely some mental illness going on there; some of them just manage to not be quite as fucked over in terms of social functioning as Chris is.

As for whether or not Chris legitimately believes CWCville, Sonichu et. al. are really real...these days, who knows. I think in certain ways he's aware that they don't exist outside his imagination, but he doesn't want to fully acknowledge this; he really, really wants for there to be a place where he's a superpowered warrior who heroically overcomes all obstacles and vanquishes dang dirty trolls. Since he's become so depressed and paranoid lately, however, it's become increasingly difficult for him to retreat fully into his self-indulgent fantasy world, something he blames on the trolls. I think that at some point in the past couple of years, something - the death of his father, the endless parade of fake girlfriends, the constant frustration and social isolation - finally convinced him, on a very deep, basic level, that his Sonic recolors and the world they inhabit aren't real. There is no parallel universe where he can be a hero and hang out with pokemon and win a hot, supportive girlfriend/surrogate mommy. This world is all he's got, and it's full of trolls, a demanding mother, and a house crammed with Goodwill refuse. No wonder he's depressed.

Wait... why does he need a portal, if the city is in Virginia? Couldn't he just drive there?

Because it's in a separate plane of reality. CWCville exists in Toon Virginia, which is like Virginia but populated by every Sonichu recolor ever made in the state.
