so as some might remember, someone sold Chris their old laptop sometime in 2011. However, he seems to be exclusively using his iphone to access the internet nowadays. What happened to the laptop he got? did he break it? Is it buried under a huge pile of junk somewhere?

I wonder about this too. Also wasn't it someone on the old-old-old-old forums? I remember lurking during that time and that person was trying to get Chris back online or something?

Maybe he broke it and now what's left of it is buried under all of Barb's shit.

Someone from the Yuku forums, I don't remember who, sent Chris their old laptop after rigging it with a trojan. Unfortunately, Chris wiped the computer and did a clean install of Windows before using it. As for where it is now? Chris probably doesn't even know. His PS3 most likely replaced it long before the iPhone did.

I forget who it was too. But I do remember pretty much everyone telling him that it was a bad idea and that no content would be created as a result. Then... what do you know? It was a bad idea, and no content was created as a result.

That was admittedly pretty smart of him.

Every time Chris gets a new piece of expensive technology he doesn't need, he stops using the previous one, no matter how much he payed for it or how recently he acquired it. So once he got his iWhatever, he probably just set the laptop aside so it could collect dust. Or maybe Barb put it under a table leg to make one of her trash mountains more stable.

I've heard of hardware level systems that protect a program from being wiped or allow for certain things to be reinstalled. I wonder if one could create a trojan, embed it into the hardware of a laptop, mail it to Chris and then when Chris wipes the computer... the trojan will be installed along with Windows so that all of Chris' work will be wasted.

Just an idea.

Those kinds of systems are very expensive and typically found on dedicated servers (the kind that cost upwards of 10,000 dollars). A trojan in the firmware is more within the realm of possibility, but my research indicates it's extraordinarily rare and the few cases I found involved people from within the company (i.e. those with the source code), so I'm guessing it's also not really an option. I'm surprised there hasn't been that much on this front; this is the kind of software that I envision the CIA dumping billions into researching. I'm guessing there's some reason on a conceptual level that inhibits it.

If you really wanted to maximize your odds of getting Chris infected, you'd create compromised installation discs for Windows, Office, some Adobe stuff, and a selection of enticing games to include with a shiny new computer (maybe an Alienware chassis rebranded with "Playstation PC" or something to trigger his brand loyalty?). I could also imagine including an external hard drive and choosing a trojan that embeds itself on any writable drives it encounters. Really, though, Chris doesn't seem like somebody that ever cared enough to learn what phishing is, so the only difficulty would be formulating an email he wouldn't ignore.

Of course, the fact that so much of his shit got leaked means his main computer got jacked already, so it's a moot point.

I don't think Chris uses a computer enough. He posted all of comics online through his PlayStation. He doesn't know how to use a PC.

Also, this conversation is getting dangerous. Tone it down.

Okay, I wrote the virus. Now we just need someone with the computer.

Code:
//Virus for CWC's computer

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()
{
     bool pickle;
     pickle = True;

     while (pickle == True)
     {
          cout << "JUUULLLAAAAYYY!\n";
     }

     return 0;
}

Based on the details from his Facebook statuses, he's definitely using his iPhone and/or Vita at this point. I'm sure it stems primarily from paranoia, as Chris thinks Barb/Rob Bell's advice of "stay off the computin' machine!" literally means to not use traditional computers.

Oh most definitely. Chris' cement logic can only process specifics, and if they didn't specify otherwise, he'll gladly take that as an out to fuel his obsession with the internet.

I figured since you can't play as many games on a laptop as a PS3 its probably buried under a bunch of crap by now.
