We've done a pretty good job documenting and illustrating Chris's ability to hold two completely opposing beliefs. To give but a few examples, Chris can simultaneously believe "I had a bunch of girlfriends" and "I never had any girlfriends, just trolls". Also "My Sonichu creation is world-famous" and "My creation never went anywhere". Finally, "My gal-pals were all in love with me" and "The bitches all betrayed me and want nothing to do with me!".

To say the least, this is not a sign of a well-adjusted person of any age or intelligence. Even young children understand that two opposite truths cannot coexist. If you were on the playground, you were not ALSO in class. It's one or the other. Yet Chris's brain is unable to maintain even this standard.

I ask: Is this a sign of Chris's stupidity, his autism, or... and I don't ask this lightly... does it point to some mental disorder beyond either of those two? I really wonder if this level of disconnect from reality is perhaps the best sign that Chris needs therapy.

It's a sign that Chris' untreated 'tism contributes to his stupidity, his stupidity further fuels his ego and his ego cannot be check by his untreated autism. Which further contributes to his stupidity, which inflates his ego even more...

I'm starting to wonder if Chris wasn't misdiagnosed. He may not be medically retarded but he's far stupider than anyone who calls themselves a high functioning autistic has any right to be.

I believed this too for awhile but nowadays I think it's more of his lack of dedication to his education that has made him so stupid.

Chris has spent the last decade in more or less total isolation. There has been no beneficial stimulus whatsoever, no improvement of any basic means of understanding the world and his part in it. On the contrary, his ability to communicate has deteriorated to the point where nothing he says now makes any sense. Another ten years and he will just mutter incomprehensively to himself.

The world Chris inhabits is very, very small while the outside world has grown ever more confusing and threatening. Having a pair of geriatric paranoids living with him has made this development worse.

Understanding means basically taking what you think you know and comparing it to new information as it comes in and then adjusting your knowledge, deleting those parts incompatible with the new info and adding new data.
If no new data comes in, this simple process stops. Chris has never learned to adjust the pre-sets ingrained into him by Bob and Barb. If something happened that threw their authority into perspective, he flipped his shit. Then he learned to just ignore anything that would question the absolute truths of his world-view.
What we have now is a grown man looking at the world through the brain of a high school kid with bad grades and no interest in anything besides kids' toys, kids' books and kids' TV shows.
The real world is dynamic and ever-changing. Chris' world is static and built on constants he requires to remain stable.
His superpower is being able to bounce back from any personal tragdy because he can shut it out of his perception. He has absolutely convinced himself that the world is as he thinks it is instead of knowing that the world keeps changing and requiring him to adjust.

Doublethink is a common occurrence these days for the majority of the population.

The disconnect between what you are told on the media and what you see in reality is one of the causes of it imo.

Barb and Bob didn't exactly prepare Chris for the sobering realities of life, let alone life as a "High-funtioning Autistic". Also, don't forget that Chris sometimes "talks" to some of his imaginary characters, so he's not exactly in a good state of mental health as it is.

It's very hard to discern the boundaries of Chris's autism, obstinance, wishful thinking, and natural intelligence.

Hmm...I'm not sure his education has anything to do with his stupidity. I mean, sure, his lack of focus or attention to his studies means that he's by no means book smart. But Chris lacks common sense, and you don't need to be formally educated to have that.

Of course environment plays a factor. I wonder if Chris would be smarter if, instead of Buttfuck, Virginia, he was raised somewhere like upstate New York.

Isolation kills common sense pretty quickly, and barely leaving the house is just as destructive in NY as in Virginia. Growing up with Borb and never making an attempt to learn new things or get outside and do something pretty much has left him in a slow spiral of regression. And that's even without factoring in the autism.

Chris has Cwcville and then he also has the fictional reality he and his parents have engineered for him. He is so insane he has to have two made-up worlds to retreat to.

I don't think these are actual mental contradictions. They are little lies he tells to himself or to others to make himself appear better or to better suit the situation if he perceives a benefit to himself. I think he is self-aware of the deception. I don't think he is actually deluded and believes both to be simultaneously true. Many people tell little white lies to others or to themselves, or may like to shield themselves from an inconvenient truth. Chris takes it a little farther.

Let me try:

Natural intelligence: very, very low. Chris has to repeat the same mistake over and over again before he learns anything from his actions. He fell for internet sweethearts again and again and again, he genuinely believed someone would try to steal his identity, he beleived that obviously made-up people were real. Chris has little to no knowledge of the world and no working theory of how anything works. I think we can discard the influence of his "intelligence"

Obstinance and wishful thinking: I think these are symptoms of something else: Chris is afraid. The outside world is huge, vastly complex and - thanks to the paranoia instilled in him by his parents - very threatening. The only place he feels reasonably safe is Planet Fatty, a place where everything is as it - in his mind - should be. Where Bob is always right, his mommy is always pretty, he wins every contest and basically is the good guy being victimized by evil people.
In order to maintain his safe haven, Chris has to ignore every hint that his world is an illusion and doesn't work because the alternative is way too difficult to handle for him: He'd have to be a part of the real world without having any idea of how to achieve that.
I wouldn't call Chris obstinate or prone to wishful thinking. It may look as if he were but I think he just has a very efficient defense mechanism: a very, very limited and selective perspective.

Atsimu: enhancing factor. Even if he were neurotypical, 30 years in the clutches of Borb and isolated from the world would have rendered him stupid and afraid. The atsimu has made him more compliant and furthered his deterioration: he likes things the way they are, is prone to repetitive behaviour, sees no need to change his models of reality and strangers frighten him because he doesn't understand how they work. With or without atsimu, that's the way things are. Atsimu makes them worse.

IMO, the terrible stasis that is life on planet fatty has also started to make him depressive. He has lost interest in things he liked to do and which used to be important to him ( :sonichu: ) and his enforced lethargy is taking its toll on his physical well-being. He has finally learned that there are no sweethearts for him on the innernet (and it only took him, what, a dozen tries?) and his libido is starting to vanish (which might also be caused by his terrible diet). There is no driving force left in his life except fear - and that forces him to retreat further and further away from the world.

They only gave him the "high functioning" label because he eventually learned how to talk and write and that sort of thing. To separate him from the nonverbal "windows to hell" that stare at walls all day. Beyond that it didn't have anything to do with how well he talks and writes.

Anyways I think most of these contradictions has to do with what he wants at the moment. When he wants pity he whines about how all his girlfriends were trolls and Sonichu had no fans and such. If you point these out yourself he wants you to shut up because he's had multiple girlfriends and Sonichu has a billion fans!

Actually it's like what Bob did when Chris was younger. He has to be mainstreamed because he's NORMAL goddammit but if you try to kick him out of class or something else I don't like then HOW DARE YOU BE MEAN TO AN AUTISTIC!

"I had a bunch of girlfriends" and "I never had any girlfriends, just trolls".
I think that depends on who he's talking too. He'll say the first to jerks and trolls to prove he isn't as naive and pathetic as they say. He says the latter to gain pity, usually from a female.
Also "My Sonichu creation is world-famous" and "My creation never went anywhere". Finally, "My gal-pals were all in love with me" and "The bitches all betrayed me and want nothing to do with me!".
I think these two are pre- and post- realizations, as opposed to contradictions. He wasn't lying because he thought they were true. Then he found out the truth, that he didn't have true Sonichu fans (minus the one, but that's for another thread), and his gal pals weren't true.

I'll go into detail on the first one because I think that's an actual contradiction. The example is basically Chris going "My life is awesome and I should be worshipped" and "god my life sucks, pity me" Chris doesn't think about the past or future, he just thinks about what he wants now. Sometimes he wants recognition, sometimes he wants pity, and he plays on what he wants at that moment, not thinking on how it might contradict the past or affect the future.
