You may know CinemaSins for their sub-standard (imo) "Everything Wrong With X" videos. Today, they put out a video on Kong: Skull Island.

That would normally be the end of it, until this ZZ Top motherfucker threw a bitchfit.
ZZTop1.jpg

This is Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Skull Island. He saw the video and lost his shit, even comparing the CinemaSins guys to Trump.

I've always thought of Cinema Sins as just a funny series (be jokingly overly-nitpicky about films while also pointing out some legitimate issues). Nothing to get this upset over. They sin a movie you like? Don't watch the fucking video.

But we live in a time where apparently "hurt feelings" = "breaking the law" or something, so we get stuff like this

Anybody who thinks CinemaSins is legit should watch the video they did about themselves, realize what's happening, and calm the fuck down. They literally say in that video "We're assholes!" and sin themselves for it. And it ends with them giving themselves a Sin count of Infinity. They are not serious, so fucking relax.

It's always the directors of bad novies that get pissy with then. Pretty sure this happened before with Lucy or something
I know Rian Johnson (Looper, Star Wars 8) didn't like their video on the former, but he didn't lose his shit over multiple tweets like Jordan here.

Yeah, going to every "sin" you disagree with and explaining why it's wrong is pretty up there in the dumb reaction chart.

Even before this dumbass decided to sperg about them on Twitter, CinemaSins still got a lot of hate from people who actually took what they were saying seriously.

Every time they make a video, there's a ton of people in the comments screaming "How dare you insult my favorite movie! Fuck u!!!" And every time someone brings them up on Reddit, you'll see a big wall of text about how they're so "judgemental" and ""nitpicky".

It's hilarious that so many people don't realize that their stuff is just for comedy.

No wonder cynicism and sarcasm got popular so fast, it's just too damn easy to make fun of dumb people who can't understand even the simplest of jokes.
This is going to be a good salt mine.

Earlier this year, Legendary / Warner Bros.’ Kong: Skull Island roared into theaters, pleasing fans and critics alike, and thundering its way to well over half-a-billion dollars at the worldwide box office. It’s the latest entry in the studios’ shared mega-monster universe, one that also includes Godzilla and the monstrous mythology that populates both franchises. The film came out on Blu-ray about a month ago and the next installment–Michael Dougherty‘s Godzilla sequel–isn’t due out until March 22, 2019. So why’s Kong: Skull Island back in the news today?

CinemaSins released their takedown of the film today, but that’s not exactly why; they’ve made a living out of snarking and sniping major motion pictures as the cinematic equivalent of Monday morning quarterbacks. The reason Kong: Skull Island is in headlines, however, is because the film’s director Jordan Vogt-Robertshas taken issue with the critical video. He took to social media to address the YouTuber’s list of presumed sins, taking apart a number of them with both visual evidence and insider information.

Here’s Vogt-Roberts’ Twitter thread addressing Kong: Skull Island and CinemaSins. See what he has to say and then let us know your thoughts in the comments!

With over seven million subscribers, CinemaSins is one of the largest movie-related networks on YouTube. Its videos, which delight in pointing out mistakes both real and perceived in major motion pictures, rack up millions of views. The RedLetterMedia-owned channel also attracts the ire of some of its targets, including Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who shredded the channel in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

CinemaSins creators Jeremy Scott and Chris Atkinson messed with the wrong monster when it uploaded a 20-minute video that pointed out nearly 150 alleged sins in the March blockbuster. Soon after, Vogt-Roberts posted a lengthy rebuttal to both the specific points raised by the video and the entire premise of CinemaSins’ work.

“These videos are now the length of TV pilots - where people tell actual stories,” he wrote, adding to a tweet that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson wrote in response to the CinemaSins video about his 2012 film Looper. Notably, the old CinemaSins videos were less than three minutes, and now have expanded in both scope and snark.

The first 7 minutes of UP reflects the entire range of human emotions. These schmucks waste 18 minutes of your life with no artistic value. https://t.co/UIXGxfmtOd

Things like Cinema Sins simply suck the life blood of other people and are often just wrong about intent or how cinema works. It's terrible.

— Jordan Vogt-Roberts (@VogtRoberts) August 15, 2017
Vogt-Roberts took exception to a number of points made by the video, pointing out their lapse in logic and lack of context:

Because it's inaccessible by boat and thus only discovered when we launched satellites in the 70's with cameras looking down at the earth. pic.twitter.com/VY54NIeO7F

I love film criticism and I love reading negative reviews if the author makes compelling and well written arguments.

— Jordan Vogt-Roberts (@VogtRoberts) August 15, 2017
For the most part, film critics agreed with him. Many chimed in with their own articles arguing against the sins of CinemaSins, and journalist-turned-screenwriter Gary Whitta called them bullies:

I'm with @VogtRoberts on the Cinema Sins critique. Many of their "sins" are filler, insulting films & filmmakers for the sake of content.

— C. Robert Cargill (@Massawyrm) August 15, 2017
I’ve read tons of thoughtful criticism of my films. And learned from it. Cinema Sins is just smug grandstanding akin to bullying. Worthless.

— Gary Whitta (@garywhitta) August 15, 2017
Cinemasins and their ilk are bad for movies and entirely unpleasant. I hate the way they approach movies. Flat out hate. So that's 2 of us. https://t.co/OifW5xRuMt

— DrewMcWeeny (@DrewMcWeeny) August 15, 2017
CinemaSins tried to downplay the criticism; thus far, this is its only response:

Hey, everyone! I stepped away from the computer for a few hours to run errands and stuff. Did I miss anything?

The snarky movie review by way of long winded video essay has become a contentious sub-genre of film criticism, with countless YouTube channels devoted to picking apart every aspect of a movie — whether deserving of ridicule or not. But while Honest Trailers prides itself on humor backed up with a genuine love of cinema, others feel downright malicious, such as CinemaSins. The channel prides itself on uncovering what it sees as “sins” in mainly blockbuster movies, whether that be plot holes or music choices.

CinemaSins launched their latest takedown Tuesday, this time of the well-reviewed monster movie “Kong: Skull Island.” Coming in at just under 18 minutes, the tirade is almost the length of a television pilot, as “Kong: Skull Island” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts points out. The filmmaker took to Twitter to explain why he takes issue with this particular site and its vitriolic reviews, which he sees as antithetical to film criticism on the whole as well as to the spirit of cinema.

If Jordan is thin-skinned to the point where very, very lightweight comedy causes him to sperg out, how the hell did he direct a blockbuster to begin with, and how does he expect to keep getting work?

The usual way a NEET like him would. Catering to SJW nonsense and directing sanitized slop.

Do news sites have some kind of vendetta against YouTubers? It seems like they'll take any opportunity possible to not only criticize them, but outright insult them, and will completely ignore factual evidence to do so (see Pewdiepie, Jontron, H3H3 and now this).

They do. Other than GoomerGlomper, the old media hates the new media. Although you did see Movieblob throw out his fat opinion on CinemaSins.

And Brandon (his IRL name) is known to be an enemy to SJWs and people like MovieBlob.

Theres an 2007 episode of obscure Chicago comedy podcast Red Bar Radio where Jordan Vogt Roberts acts like a huge bitch and walks out because callers kept making fun of him. Thats basically all i know about the guy, glad to see a decade changes nothing
Links? Jordan sounds more and more like the most personally successful cow we'll ever cover.
