Christ, is this a new development, or were directors always thin-skinned babies who assumed their shit was solid gold?
Genuinely good creators know they're good, people who make shit products for megabux appreciate they're just in it for the money - it's generally the people in the middle who get mad online on a daily basis
The Midwit: just enough above average to be told they're smart (and make Smartness part of their identity), but not smart enough to actually be that smart. Typically aware of their limitations but unwilling to admit to them, because that would mean they had to give up their Smart Status, they are extremely sensitive to criticism, and quick to take personal offense (as their identity is perceived to be under attack).
The lesson to be learned here is: Don't overpraise your kids.

Before the internet, the main kind of feedback you got as a director was from executives (who only really cared how much money your film made) and full-time critics (who you could easily ignore, so long as the film made money). And, of course, there was no easy way for you to answer back, other than maybe getting pissy in interviews.
It's interesting to speculate how some of the old-time directors would have dealt with the change. I suspect you'd have seen a lot of headlines about "John Ford punches random nerd again, says "he had it coming.""
So the director decides to pitch a fucking fit over the CinemaSins video...but is perfectly willing to show up in the Honest Trailers video of Skull Island, huh?

Unlike Screen Junkies, Cinemasins aren't corporate whores that suck up to big studios.
I hadn't seen a Cinemasins video until I watched that FF8 one, and I thought it was pretty funny. Then again, if a director threw a fit over somebody mocking the Furious series everybody would laugh at them.
