It's a virtue signal. Now when the participants are asked "What have you done about climate change" they can smugly answer: "I took part in Climate Strike 2019", disregarding that the strike accomplishes nothing. They get to pat themselves on the back, and everyone else just rolls their eyes and moves on.

C’mon guys, it’s time to stop. We need to listen to the brave children willing to stand up for Mother Earth! They are so much wiser and well educated than we are. The countless hours they put into research is staggering and should not be overlooked, not to mention their real world experiences. They are the future, that’s why they care so much more than we do! It’s our duty to set aside our ignorance and make a change. We need to stop listening to the mainstream media telling us that climate change isn’t a threat…it’s all just fake news! We’re gonna be dead in 12 years, and the children will be laughing at us (All from the grave of course). We need to listen to them! Just look at places like China, they’re putting forth so much effort to fight the war on climate change. We need to follow in their brave and beautiful footsteps. The answer is so simple; just stop driving cars, eating meat, and flying airplanes...oh and stop breathing cause that’s bad too. It’s just so simple, ride your bicycle and eat grass you dumb-asses, problem solved.

Why do these people trust politicians/ governments to this extent? Shouldn't the great pacific garbage patch be enough evidence that you can't trust the government to deal with environmentalism.

Because they see themselves as the forefront of a revolution. They don’t imagine the current government “saving earth” they see copies of themselves (or some literally see themselves) as the dominant block of politicians a few years from now.

Also everyone wants to be a big fucking hero these days.

I know my professor and my younger brother are going, I have games to play so I'm not going.
My brother wouldn't take my suggestion to wear something that says MAGA and try to convince people it means 'Make America Green Again'. He's no fun.
It's just a bunch of people wanting other people to solve a problem for them and not having any other plan, all at the behest of a child who looks like a spud.

So now the middle class worldwide is going to tell everyone else how bad they are while doing nothing themselves? Great...

They won't even learn that recycling is a joke and wind farms/solar panels and so on cause more problems than they solve. We'd be better off mass slaughtering all the cattle worldwide and giving up on commercial cattle for food because they cause a much larger percentage of damage to the environment than anything else, but that would cause a massive jobs and land ownership crisis and the middle class want their good cuts of meat from the butcher on the dinner table. Giving up things is too hard so lets make the government bring in more pointless solutions that create more problems.

I'm in school right now and I have already been told by multiple friends of mine that the only reason they are participating is to skip school.

Anyone who thinks that children skipping school is a positive thing, whatever the context, should get the rope.

All this does is waste the time of teachers, sensible students, and taxpayers.

If any fun is going to occur, it will be when Friday rush hour hits, 3 hours from now. Some of these crowds are huge so it will be a fucking sight if any get out of control.

Also, I question some of the planning choices the movement put on their website.

They've included countries which obviously do not permit the right to protest, there was also a protest scheduled to occur in Xiamen, China earlier, but it seems they have removed it. Also included are some disputed territories/nations such as Western Sahara and Somaliland (but Puntland isn't available, oddly). https://globalclimatestrike.net/start/ Full list is here.

Children would take the day off school for any reason what so ever. We know the media wouldn't be supporting them if they were doing it in favour of Brexit or Trump building the wall.
Pretty much exactly it, and that is what these climate sheisters are counting on. If I were the parents, i would just encourage them to skip the rally too and go to the mall or go home for the day, or just not send them at all. if parents did that, how many would actually attend their little rally? probably not every many.
