Most popular closed species are started by people who have a large audience and the ability to make something look fancy/scary/cute. You're just shit at art and came at a time were most species had since put up rules saying don't harass people making knockoffs.

a few years ago for shits and giggles and to see who i could piss off i made a throwaway account on DA and deliberately drew closed species...i seem to have the ninja skill 'Flying Below the Radar'. if i get the urge to do this again maybe ill use tags this time. |3 call me autistic but i like to draw what i like and i want to get in a net fight. just need to turn off some innate de-escalator skills i seem to have.

Yeah, I know a lot of Kiwis are just luling at the fact that you have to pay to draw something or whatever, but Mignyans/Dainties have such an odd market. I feel like explaining it to people would make their head blow off but there is money to be made or labor to be traded.

Say you have a dainty made by the owner of the species (Pajuxi.) Now you have a design that people want. I am going to say design rather than character because not a ton of people people use Dainties/Mignyans for making stories because of the foddering issues. You can trade this Pajuxi-designed Dainty for other sought-after designs, (such as Mignyan made by Casin0s), or trade it for art. Reselling rarely happens because you can hypothetically trade your design for way more than it's worth monetary wise.

It's like a weird... perceived value sort of thing? And all dependent on how popular the creator is. That's just the tip of the iceberg, too.

That already exists within certain ARPG closed species with their own websites. Dainties have their point system which can let you obtain edit bows, crossbreed potions, MYO slots. Chimerons have their beetle system which lets users trade them in for items and slots in the community. Strudels have crumbs which let you buy slots, art, items and site pets.

I should clarify, those systems at least for strudels and dainties aren't from actual money. Those systems require you to more or less participate in the community for those rewards. Monthly art/writing prompts, or character building. Chimerons I've seen more mixed responses on if their system is also rooted in actual money/you can buy their point shit.

stygian website does have an actual, basic RPG system from what I've heard
so owning these things is more about elite status and more direct equivalent of petsites - you know, neopets and the like
the elite status is nothing new, but at least they have some interactive pseudo-game side to them compared to most of these
sometimes for the low, cheap price of 6k USD

They most likely wont, to be honest. Artists can and do turn down work. Some shitty beginner artist might agree because they're dumb and desperate, but anyone with the technical skill to handle that trainwreck will either refuse, or charge Fuck You money that the client won't be willing to pay.
