Cougs have a special relationship with College Gameday. They have flown the flag for 216 straight broadcasts but have never hosted. It's always been a bridesmaid, never a bride.
Then this happened.
This broadcast is at 5am. And has only gotten rowdier.
The sleepy college town has gone absolutely nuts. We are talking standing-room-only for an entire city. Circus atmosphere. The city declared an emergency.
Oh, yeah. One more important thing. WSU alum are famous for drinking cities dry when they travel. Party school.
The Cougs are currently pummeling the Ducks.

Longhorns to cruise to the playoffs because the Big XII is garbage just like it has been every season post-realignment but the committee will throw the conference a bone. Dunno who else they’ll lose to unless Rutgers or Boston College or some other bottom feeder of a conference that plays football comes to town.

Big XII isn’t really a P5 conference anymore, the only way they get in is if the longhorns or Sooners go undefeated. Dunno why espn keeps hyping the conference...I dunno why...hmm...might be some network decision...hmm...

If WSU wins out convincingly they could make it. But they just barely beat Cal so, yeah, not super hopeful about that.
If we're being honest with ourselves, it's really only ever been a power 3. ACC, Big10 and the SEC
Big XII was legit there for a bit, the people who put it together were just morons who kowtowed to state legislatures. When the athletic departments got big and rich enough to give state government the finger, it all came crashing down.
PAC is just weird. I never paid any attention to them at all until the pirate sailed into town.
Yeah, the only time the PAC12 gets any real playoff/title consideration is when USC is on an upswing. The Big12 has a serious problem with parity after losing so many schools, too. Between Mizzou and Texas Tech leaving to essentially be conference feeder wins to UGA/Tenn/Florida and Bama/Auburn/LSU and losing Colorado and Nebraska to the PAC and Big 10, they've been so heavily defanged that they might as well just join the big sky. Plus, 'd be SHOCKED if WVU doesn't leave them to join the ACC in the next few years.
The best way to fix the 12 right now would just be to try and get Boise State, BYU and Maybe North Dakota State to join. Best case would be trying for Notre Dame instead of BYU, because this year they're gonna really wish they had a Title game to play in when final voting for the playoff happens
ACC will get Notre Dame fully joined into the conference in football out of independent status before they spring for West Virginia which brings nothing to a conference table, just ask what's left of the former Big East and the Louisville dumpster fire football program about that marketing reality.
Big 12 having to go to Utah and Idaho for new state TV markets to add would be hilarious or sad, depending on your conference rooting affiliation. Texas would be in the PAC-13 or 14 or whatever in a day if that happened I bet.
Everybody here is picking the SEC West champion in the title game this year also, right? Any year Kentucky is in the mix for a title game appearance has to be considered a somewhat down year in the league no matter how much farther ahead the team in Tuscaloosa is of everyone though, so Clemson might be able to get their playoff win back if they can get their defensive line to force a change in game at quarterback against Saban's wishes through injury.

Yeah, Bama looks unstoppable right now outside of Tua getting hurt. Best case scenario for UGA, Clemson and the rest of the teams who have a legit shot at the playoff is that Auburn has a player take a clean shot at his knee and make Alabama mortal against a team with a legitimate running threat
The PAC and Big XII have real teams. Texas, despite its lack of recent success is still the richest athletic department in the country and USC was the big dynasty team before Bama came along. Then there is Oregon, Oklahoma, OSU, etc. Their lineups are as good as Clemson and the Seven Dwarves.
I think the era of conference realignment is over. That was all about TV network regions and the move away from cable is killing that. Perhaps if Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, UNC, FSU etc wants to move somewhere they will get in along with a partner. Or perhaps the Big XII will bite on USF/UCF plus Cinci but it doesn't look like it will be any time soon.
