How did she go in one month from an apartment in Lakeview down the street from Whole Foods to homeless and dying without a phone? If you could elaborate on that part of the story I think it would add to the cow value.

If you check it out on google earth, you'll see her room was on the north side of the building overlooking a lower roof. She got the boot for not being man and taking housing intended for men. She checked herself in for a 72 hour hold for suicidal thoughts after her mom cancelled a visit. She is desperately doing anything she can in order to avoid being and adult and taking responsibility for her life. She's talked about Job Corps, but they have a cut off at 25, which she will be turning in a month. Her caseworker has assured her she will get a waiver and be accepted even if she is 25. This may or may not be the same caseworker that got her locked up on an involuntary hold earlier this year. Such a waiver program does exist for people with disabilities. I expect her to not follow through with the program if she gets accepted. Her plan is to move to CA and do that if she can't find housing in Chicago.

My stomping ground is actually a few blocks away from the Crib. I will take this moment to defend it though. For the most part it houses gay Polish, Muslim, and Mexican teens which just so happens to make a huge part of this lovely city's population. Yeah there are transtrenders there but they do provide safe housing for people from cultures that would cut their heads off for being gay. When these people don't have a shelter or housing to go to they end up with me and trust me, there are a million places that they and I would rather have them be for the sake of their independence and promotion of their own welfare.
I just wanted to nip any criticism of the Crib in the bud right now. Although I have not stayed there the conversations that I've had with people who do use the service has led me to believe it is a necessary one for when someone finds themselves born in a family that does not want their darling Achmed to be balls deep inside of Juan. Are there troons and attention whores ruining the service for other people? Yes but shouldn't we expect that?
