Turns out those against Columbus Day have something in common with the KKK

http://www.nationalreview.com/artic...ts-anti-capitalist-ku-klux-klan-anti-catholic

In the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan promoted negative characterizations of Columbus in order to vilify Catholics and immigrants, many of whom celebrated Columbus not only as a source of ethnic and religious pride but also as a symbol of the free and diverse society that resulted from the European presence here. The Klan tried to prevent the erection of monuments to the Great Navigator, burned crosses in opposition to efforts to honor him, and argued that commemorations of his voyage were part of a papal plot. Rather than honor a Catholic explorer from the Mediterranean, Klansmen proposed honoring the Norseman Leif Eriksson as discoverer of the New World and a symbol of white pride.

What I like about things like this is that it's not about the actual victims. It's moreso just a holiday for autistic white people to whip themselves and get insanely high off their own farts.

I know, right? If I run into another comment/post that begins with "Fellow white people" I'm going to scream.

I'm sympathetic to actual native people being upset by Columbus Day, because duh. I never have any patience for self-flagellating white people.

How about a compromise? Call it Explorer's Day or some shit like that. Or Italian Heritage Day?

Because quite frankly, there are so many different Native American tribes, everybody seems to think they're all the same, and that they're all "spirital and in touch with nature", rather than actually learning about their history. How is THAT not patronizing as fuck?

Most Latinos don't really give a crap about it, yet we're mixed in with the Natives.
Hell, a lot of natives dont give a shit either. Much of my extended family has enough indian in them to qualify for those native american college grants, and some of the oldest members are over 1/2 native american.

Not a single one of them gives a flying fuck. But none of them chose to live on a poor as fuck reservation in bumfuck nowhere, so YMMV.

It seems that most of the ones complaining are either typical white SJWs with no lives or those of native american heritage that choose to live in the abject poverty of native american reservations.

most of the people who do the "Fellow White People" are almost always Jewish. they calim to be white when it's convenient to embrace diversity and Pee-o-seas but at the same time keep wanting to preserve their Jewish heritage. literal Stingy Jews.
Everyone in my country knows that beyond discovering the islands (the particular island of the Bahamas that Columbus discovered is named San Salvador), Columbus wasn't the best of men. He was a fine sailor, but he wasn't very good at governing and leading. When the Santa Maria got too damaged to sail back to Spain, he left several men who could not fit on the two remaining ships. This was around Hispaniola, if I recall correctly.

The following year, when Columbus returned, he found the men had been slaughtered. My dad told me it was most likely they were trying to go after the local island women.

I'm not that big a textbook on this subject though, its been a long time since I took 11th Grade Bahamian History.
Columbus always insisted that the New world wasn't an actual newfound land, but Japan. and he still insisted it all the way to his death bed.
Columbus was a lolcow who got shit done.

Columbus Day is pretty popular in Latin America (many of those countries have populations mixed with indigenous people). Shit, Colombia is even named after him. Of course, that would require the Yankee Doodle EssJayDubya's to think outside of the United States.

@Oglooger Tell us about how Columbus is viewed in Mexico pls.

Here it's the exact opposite , Columbus Day is called, as of 2010, "Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity" and all mentions of the historical event have been all but erased.

Following up on my comment of earlier, we should call it "Queen Isabella Day". Honoring a Hispanic woman who overcame adversity, worked against slavery, and empowered men to discover new continents.

Of course, they'd throw a fit because she greenlighted the Spanish Inquisition--even though she didn't expect what they were doing. (rimshot)

I was very surprised to know that people actually hate him, when in Venezuela, pre imperial infection he was actually liked it and mentioned in story books, for some reason Chavez absolutely despise him and removed the day of america discovery for some wankery of day of indigenous resistance, funny thing is that NO ONE like those fuckers they are lolcows in their own rights

The first time i noticed that some american hated him was ironically when he was added to my weebo game, he was called Rider of the Resistance but he was portrayed as a total jerkass that only like to plunder, there was a very heated discussion with people like me that did not understand why people hated him so much and others that portrait him as a absolute evil tyrant that killed people by the dozen as far as i know latinos seems to not care, same has spanish people and italians but for some reason americans despise him
