Take any game in a fantasy or sci-fi setting, strip the characters of every supernatural or fantastical ability they might have, make them into boring ordinary humans and stick them in an American high school or college. Oh, and don’t forget to make them culturally and sexually diverse for woke points, maybe even make a couple of them disabled. (I’ve seen too many artists draw their fantasy characters like this as a “what if”/AU situation and it’s one of my pet peeves)

Sonic The hedgehog travels to the real world like in the movie except this time Sonic immediately questions the essence of reality and his own identity, he realizes he is a nothing but a mascot created by a corporation to sell flashy games and merchandise, his whole world is a simulation that in no way resembles reality, everything he thought existed is fake, green hills is fake, his memories written by a japanese salaryman, everyone he loved are not people either, he can't connect to anything in this new realm, try as he might he only ends up abused and battered psycologically, he even allows for autistic con furries to molest him out of naiveté aand a need for love and self validation from others but he soon realizes his mistake and the emptiness and humilliation that is everyone seeing nothing in him but a one dimensional cartoon that exists for their disposable consumeristic enjoyment or to fullfil their weird unnatural fetishes, Sonic has no release or escape, everything he feels now is dark and abstract, now that the veil have lifted he can't go back to the fake world and be complacent with it either. In existencial dread and desperation Sonic takes revenge by convincing Chris Chandler to blow up Sega of America Headquarters and after seeing both the corporation that made him and the austistic monstrosity his image created both die in a glorious blaze Sonic utter a final "gotta go fast" and commits suicide.
