I've never lived near them but I've always found mountains and mountainous terrain to be comforting.

I recall reading in art spegialmans book in the shadow of no towers how before 9/11 he always saw a sketch artist in Hoboken drawing the NYC skyline...and a day after 9/11 he was pissed beyond all belief because his "model" the WTC had moved. Aka been replaced by a smoke cloud that blanked lower Manhattan for days after the towers collapsed
