Been a long time since I’ve posted anything (though I have lurked on the site almost daily), but having read through all the recent threads I felt it would be appropriate to create this thread so everyone (including newcomers to Christory) has a better understanding and easy place to go to if they have any burning questions about Chris.
So without further ado, I’m going to debunk several myths about CWC as best as I can. This might be long, so bear with me. (Mods: feel free to sticky this)
Myth: Chris is severely mentally disabled.
Reality: Chris actually has a very mild form of autism, arguably high-functioning. True, he didn’t get much help early on due to Borb’s meddling, but he’s no vegetable. He can speak coherently (most of the time), feed and clothe himself, legally drive a car, and pay the bills (more on that later). Many Chris’ negative attributes have nothing to do with autism. His biggest problems involving autism are having very limited intrests, lack of social awareness and being unable to show emotions properly (just look at his most recent Facebook photos). Now, whether or not Chris as another as-of-yet undiagnosed mental problems, your mileage may vary.
Myth: Chris is a shut-in.
Reality: According to Marvin and others, Chris actually does get out and socialize pretty often. He usually frequents events geared to gamer types and the LGBT crowd. There was a recent photo of Chris at some Pokemon event, for example. On the flipside, Chris can be very dull a lot of the time. Once again this could be due to him having so few special interests. Also, Chris often runs errands for Barb since she’s too old and frail to go anywhere at this point, and he goes out to eat at McDonald’s often (even though it’s not healthy in the slightest).
Myth: Chris tard rages and acts like a crazed lunatic all the time.
Reality: As Marvin has explained, the CWCki is not a reflection of the real Chris. It only takes his more unsavory traits and exaggerates them quite a bit. Chris’ day-to-day life is really no different than the average person, except for the fact he doesn’t have a job (more on that later). And when Chris is largely left to his own devices, he stays off the Internet. He’ll be out doing stuff we’ll never hear about. The truly funny and entertaining Chris content, including the tard-raging and various NSFW escapades, was due to the trolling.
Myth: Chris is bad with money.
Reality: Chris is smart enough to pay the bills because he knows without that he wouldn’t be able to do anything else (you need electricity to play vidya, after all). He takes care of credit cards, though he apparently does the bare miniumum there. I’m not saying Chris is a spendthrift, and his begging videos have gotten old, but he at least knows to spend the required money to keep 14 Branchland Court afloat. After that, anything goes. Chris is actually the one running the house, even if he doesn’t realize it.
But I do have a question: does he really need that money for extra Legos or is he just begging for attention? (The latter wouldn’t surprise me)
Myth: Chris can’t or won’t get a job.
Reality: This issue is a little more nuanced. Right now, because he has the tugboat, Chris doesn’t see much need for a job (at least a part-time job). But, if push came to shove, Chris would end up getting a job, and he would hold on to it. He’d probably complain quite a bit, but he’d do the work. Chris is a huge coward, he’s not as stubborn as you might think. Now, would any sensible employer consider hiring him considering his unsavory Internet reputation? I can’t think of an answer right now.
Myth: Chris hates authority and doesn’t care about how his actions affect other people.
Reality: While hitting Michael Snyder with a car and macing a hapless GameStop employee was morally reprehensible, there’s very little evidence to show Chris did all this with malicious intent. Both times, he panicked and the injuries he caused were collateral damage as he fled in fear. So he ended up getting just a slap on the wrist for both incidents. I doubt Chris is going to do anything crazy again any time soon. While he doesn’t like jerkops, he’s absolutely terrified of going to jail because it will mean the end of his Love Quest…or something. Marvin has confirmed that Chris will never touch mace/pepper spray again.
Myth: Chris’ social media threats to Pmurt will get him thrown in jail.
Reality: It’s true that threatening the President of the United States is a serious crime that get you thrown in the big house for a long time, but as some other posters have said, the FBI, Secret Service and other authorities prioritize those who are more of an imminent threat. Not the case with Chris. And let’s not forget those agencies are literally knee-deep sifting through all those threats trying to figure out who would be more dangerous. Chris probably wouldn’t even get just a visit from the SS telling him to cut the crap because of how overwhelmed they are. I think Chris getting his posts deleted and a week-long ban from Facebook was punishment enough, but it looks like he’s at it again with his “puzzlers.”
Whew…that’s all I could come up with, but I hope it’s informative.
