Conan O'Brien Heads to Japan to Claim His Detective Conan Royalties -

Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien is continuing his crusade to get his 3 trillion yen (US$27 billion) in royalties from Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama by heading to straight to Japan. O'Brien announced his plans to head to Hokuei in Tottori Prefecture, the birthplace of Aoyama and colloquially known as "Conan Town," on this week's episode of Conan.

Hokuei mayor Akio Matsumoto responds to to the 3 trillion yen sum and demands to change parts of Conan Town to be more O'Brien-friendly. Matsumoto says he'll fulfill the requests so long as O'Brien puts him on Mount Rushmore, gives him his own walk of fame, and brings 15,000 hamburgers with him. Conan plays along with his own goofs and then calls Matusmoto on his bluff. Next week, Conan will show O'Briens trip to Hokuei to claim his money.

The fictional feud began last week when O'Brien discovered that he is not the most popular "Conan" in the world; that place is held by Detective Conan in Japan. O'Brien drew comparisons between himself and the tiny sleuth, jokingly stating that he must be the original inspiration for the character and thus owed the outrageous sum of 3 trillion yen.

I'm about 90% positive that the Japan trip has been planned for a while, before he even mentioned Detective Boy Conan for the first time at the beginning of last week, the first show after a weirdly long hiatus where pretty much the only shows he did for the past two months were at San Diego Comiccon. Even in July, there is usually at least a week or two of "new" episodes besides the SDCC ones.

Conan went to Korea a couple of years ago, so a trip to Japan was pretty inevitable.
