Confess your literary sins

  1. Did your story include a swing dance scene set to Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman because if so, you totally stole my story that I wrote in middle school.

  2. I've read books which aren't the Bible.

That's a literal literary sin, right?

  3. I enjoy some fanfiction, Ravenloft tie-in novels, and Tom Clancy books unironically.

Also, my favorite Mario Puzo book is Omerta (his final book, originally intended to be a distant quasi-finale to The Godfather) despite the fact that Omerta was Puzo's least well-received work, getting mixed reviews at best.

I even used to write shitty Godfather fanfiction when I was thirteen. Thank God I never posted it to the internet, I just wrote it by hand in notebooks and shared it with my friends. Some of the stuff I remember was downright cringe-worthy.

I also wrote edgy Vampire: The Masquerade dark fics when I was a junior in high school, but I was too chickenshit to post them anywhere. Again, I am thankful for that in hindsight.

  5. Eh, I used to be into online role-playing when I was in Middle School and the first year or so of High School, though I also did tabletop RPG's like D&D and Pathfinder. I still play tabletop games but I don't really do online RP anymore.

Most of the stuff was lost and I've forgotten most of it, with one exception. Back in 2005 or so, me and some friends of mine did an online role-play based on Dawn of the Dead (the original 1978 Romero film, not the shitty 2004 Zack Snyder remake) only we played as anime and video game characters. The whole thing was spergy and cringe-inducing as fuck.

  6. When I was 16 I wrote a bunch of chapters on some sci fi story I completely forgot about, but I remember finding it almost eight years later and it was so bad I burned it

  7. Another literary sin to confess.

I'm actually seriously considering getting back into writing fanfiction unironically with all the autism and cringe that may entail. I know it's dumb and spergy as fuck, but I think it would be a fun way to pass all the free time I have during the winter months.

I know they'll probably be bad if my previous attempts at writing fanfics were anything to go by, but eh, it's just for fun. I'm not trying to win any awards or anything.

  8. A friend offered to make me a full Thanksgiving dinner if I wrote porn of her two favorite Kingdom Hearts characters. I took her up on it. I wish I could say this was back in my community college days, but it happened two weeks ago.

  9. For a current sin I have a rather annoying tendency to overuse the word However in my work, which drives me up a tree. For past sins when I was in my late single digits and into my early teens I used to write embarrassing fanfiction that featured Edd (Of Ed, Edd, n Eddy fame) and Jenny Foxworth (Of Oliver & Company fame) in a relationship and living on the Island of Sodor. Highlights of said series included them attending a George Carlin performance, the two of them violently scrapping Diesel 10 and having wild sex as Percy raced by with the mail train to increase the romance. For obvious reasons I've scrubbed this from the internet, but I do have a single paged saved to remind me of how bad my writing once was.

  10. I never actually finished or published any of my works, but I did create an edglord character with daddy issues and an emo haircut. Who didn't want to follow in the footsteps of his evil father.

  11. I really like creepypastas, between the ones that are so bad they're good and the ones that are legitimately good, they've become some of my favorite stories.

  12. I used to roleplay in MMOs, which is bad, but what was worse was that I played Mary Sue characters when I was younger (We're talking 04-08 ish). I stopped roleplaying around 2010, but I get the shakes thinking about it sometimes.

  13. I fucking LOVE kids books about "kid discovers magic shit is real, fights monsters" like Percy Jackson and Fablehaven. They're shitty, but so fun to read.
I really like H.P. Lovecraft, but for every good thing he wrote, he wrote three "AAAAAA BLACK PEOPLE ARE SCARY AAAAAAA" stories.

Also not really a sin but one of my favorite book's most important scenes involves a chick promising the protagonist sex if he kills a cat in front of her.

  14. You wouldn't happen to remember the title of that book would you? Cause that sounds super familiar.

  15. Yeah I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of a sucker for those stories. I think it's because the childlike wonder (and the laziness that ensues) the characters have upon their discovery is something many kids probably would do if they learned they could use magic before they wised up (usually forcibly) and started using it for the benefit of others.

That reminds me, I never got very far into the Young Wizards series past the first book, sadly, but I found that to be a much more interesting world and a better concept of magic than Harry Potter, and that series came first by a whole decade.

  16. I like to read Dean Koontz books once in a while. They're nothing special but they're kind of a fun break, and the pacing is usually really good. I also know what I'm getting when I get one.
