but take heart in the fact they are a small minority, vocal an laughable one but most assuredly a minority, most of them will grow up an cringe at a awful lot of this stuff 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the road.

I think the problem is that they harass people NOW. Also in my opinion - it doesn't matter if they are just a minority. Their actions are just crazy. Minority or not - they hurt a lot of people. Of course some of them will grow out of it but they are still guilty of being horrible beings.

Chances are good that many will grow out of it. It's like the scene/2edgy kids in school. One or two end up moving to Michigan and eating out of Whole Foods' dumpsters to 'stick it to the man', but the majority grow up, realize they were idiots and move on.

My fear is, are they going to change? The people in question range from teenagers to adults... I mean, they still got a long way to go and they might finally mature.

Just under a century ago the authoritarian side of the far left was just waking up- in the early days of communism many people in the west were caught up in marxist propaganda and refused to awknowledge that however it was on paper; life in a communist state was an authoritarian nightmare.

The whole of the modern fourth wave movement, both on and off tumblr, is the palest shadow of their authoritarian forebears but nonetheless are the same brand of superficially leftist liberals hiding a megalomaniac desire to control the thoughts and actions of society. The moment the soviets got into power and started clamping down hard the vast majority of the public in the rest of the free world turned against them. Now the fourth wave is highly unlikely to ever take full control of a country and its bizarre need for a victim complex certainly means they wont be fighting civil wars and insurgencies! Nonetheless they are good at lobbying and brigading. I do think they are likely to succeed in gaining real influence somewhere, at which point they will implement all their mental ideas and run the poor place into the gutter. In the process they will become as politically toxic and irrelevant as modern marxists and communists. Hell we're beginning to see the beggining of a backlash building up even now- 'none pc' is increasingly seen as a virtue in politicians.

I mention all this because i believe the tumblr crowd will end up like that generation of leftists that saw the second world turn into not a workers paradise but an oppressive hell with the party replacing the princes. They will respond the same way most of that generation did- almost all of them will mature into more cautious liberal leftists, while the most insane of the fringe will just become more insane and irrelevant as time goes on.

Interestingly their children will likely be fairly lassiez faire right wingers- that seemed to be the pattern in europe in both the 19th and 20th centuries with radical change going horribly wrong (revolutionary france/soviet russia) followed by a more cautious liberal left (end of slavery in the british and french empire, extension of the franchise/ establishment of state funded healthcare/education/welfare etc) to a lassiez fair rightwing economy (late Victorian industry/thatcher/ regan).

I realise its not exact but the general pattern seems to be there. naturally we are not living through times as turbulent as revolutionary france or bolshevik russia but nonetheless we are in the 'radical' stage of the cycle with the world economy in tatters and widespread dissatisfaction and disillusionment with both politicians and 'the system'. somewhere fouth wave sjw's will get in promising 'change' and to fix society and inevitably fuck it up horribly. At which point being an sjw will no longer be cool or edgy but an embarrassment. Many of the tumblr crowd will distance themselves from it then.

I really wouldn't worry about tumblr getting raided. Really, every few days some *chan group decides to do just that, most of it being lame. Tumblr themselves sometimes decides to raid some *chan and that is usually hilariously lame. One time it involved flooding /b/ with porn. What?

I don't know how many of our resident kiwis will have read bunyans holy war? for those who don't know it is an allegory written in 1682 of the christians spiritual life: following the city of Mansoul and its inhabitants as it is caught in the midst of a war between Christ and Diabolous (the devil).

At one point in the book diablous promises absolute freedom to the people if they will let him in. They do so and he takes over the city- it soon becomes clear however that the absolute freedoms are not as the people imagined. The town recorder Mr Conscience (Bunyan names his characters literally- its to do with complex church politics at the time that i won't go into) realises that despite what diabolus claimed life is worse under his rule than it was before and he voices this opinion. The act of voicing this opinion is viewed by Diabolus as an act of defiance and conscience is placed under house arrest. he also blinds the mayor Mr Understanding and uses a man called Incredulity a great deal in his taking of the town.

Now im not trying to proselytise, nor am i going to comment on theology. What i am going to do is point out that the SJW crowd on tumblr behave the same way Bunyan believed the source of evil would- promising freedom from oppresion and equality then ruthlessly moving against anyone who disagrees with them to the point that expressing an opinion becomes an act of defiance. the tumblrites also deliberately mislead and rely on outrage (incredulity) in their arguments.

I'm not sure where im really going with this beyond pointing out how utterly shitty that part of tumblr is- I just thought it was an interesting parallel. I would point out that Captain Conviction, Captain Credence* and Captain Judgement are likely to be even more successful against Tumblr than they were against diabolus!

*credence in bunyans time meant something more like ' strong evidence' than its more modern meaning of trustworthy.

Everyone else has made the point already that we're observers not raiders or trolls, but @Vergolophus ; you seem to really want to convert some of these people. I'll let you in on a little secret. The way to convert tumblrite SJWs is the exact same way you convert neo-nazis or cultists.

With love. You love them and accept them as human beings. I'm not saying you have to accept their views or any terrible actions they carry out, as they demand of "allies" ; that's ridiculous and enabling. I'm saying the way to win them over is to love and accept them anyway. Ignore their views, denounce their actions if they're heinous enough, but never stop looking at them as human beings. Some of them will never stop being hateful, angry, bitter little shits. But some of them will grow out of it, and if they feel that they're marginalised by wider society, pushed into a corner, hated and reviled for their views, it'll just reinforce them. Validate their hate. Push them further into their corner. They'll have no way out. But when they're ready to stop hating, like you were, if there are people that accept them, people outside their little spheres of anger and bitterness, they have a way out. If they've cut themselves off so completely from outside views, they'll lose everything.

This isn't a popular or a fun thing to do, obviously. People who want to 'cure' extremists don't want to do it with love. Where's the fun in that? Where's the 'win'? They want to do it with berating, or lecturing, or gotcha logic. Or even fists and bullets. They want to 'win' them over, defeat their evil, reprehensible views and force them into rightthinking ; not have them sheepishly and gradually stop being extremists without a defining catalyst for the change. But no neo-nazi was ever berated into hanging up his Docs and suspenders. No cultist was ever lectured into leaving the Sea Org. No SJW was ever hit with such an unassailable piece of logic that they thought 'shit, guess I was wrong about everything. Welp, time to stop being a fucking asshole'. And none ever will. Hate is a powerful drug, and just like drug addicts ; nobody is cured by a forced trip to rehab. They have to want it, and they have to start wanting it on their own terms. All you can do for them is be there to support them when it happens.

But be there for them, politely disagree with them when you have to, and if any are finally ready to come out of their little tumblr hate-corner, you might be the one friend that makes them see that the rest of the world is happy to accept them back, that they're not alone and isolated, that they can stop being a raging cockhead without losing everyone they know. You might be called scum, you might be rejected and ignored, you won't get to choose which ones you save, and you'll probably never get that warm fuzzy feeling knowing you just proved an extremist so wrong that they immediately renounced all their hateful views. But if you really want to take hoods, this is how you do it.

Me personally, I'll just keep observing, and laughing every time they throw a spastic tantrum about Disney movies not having enough trannies.

I can't agree with this enough- but if you have any doubt go and read about accounts from people who have left cults- you'll see their journey almost entirely mirrors your own.

Bunyan also had captains Kindness, Good Hope and Patience who were needed to retake the town. The detail of the book of course doesn't fit but i think the broad concepts do- in order to extract someone from a cult you need to possess good judgement, conviction in ones own beliefs, good evidence, patience, kindness and a friendly hopeful demeanour. A tall order for anyone but i wish you all the best- let us know if any of your friends do escape.

For such a cold hearted little fire spark of a hole in my heart, this was a really cool, really interesting insight in how to not only try to fix what you seem to be a problem, but to fix yourself in the process.

You kind of forget that even some of these weirdos aren't obsessive and that you just have to treat them nicely for them to start listening to you and I realize that it was the same thing that happened to me-- A republican made friends with me and now I believe that some republican things are right. That post, and every other post on the thread, is really starting to make me realize it's not a enemy force. I mean, I'm not going to start befriending these people, but at the very least I will definitely keep an open heart for the people that do call me as a friend or look up to me for art.

As for other things, there's a distinct separation as to either laugh at someone's pathetic actions or to genuinely get angry at them. There's some major fuck ups in that community but over time, you have to remember that, like all human beings, they're going to grow out of their Hot Topic phase and seek redemption.

Or remain huddled in the corner afraid of the oppressing world they live in.
