Confirmed: A Metalocalypse Movie Is Coming To Adult Swim -

After nearly a decade of waiting, it looks like Metalocalypse may finally be getting the ending it deserves. According to a Facebook post from Adult Swim, the channel just green-lit movies from three beloved and cancelled shows – Metalocalypse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Venture Brothers.

Each movie debuts on both home video and video-on-demand for three months and then will be streaming free on HBO Max and Adult Swim.
Here are the synopses of all three films:

Metalocalypse

The power-hungry TRIBUNAL unveils their secret and deadly “Falconback Project” as the world grows in embattled chaos and the menacing Doomstar breaches the Earth’s atmosphere while the mysterious and twisted dissent of a band member threatens the future of Dethklok. Picking up directly after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth: Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to embark on a gauntlet of dangers that will try their very souls and finally write the song that will be their salvation?


The new movie is created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The movie soundtrack will be released on WaterTower Music.

The Venture Bros.


Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.

The Venture Bros. is created, written and executive produced by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer.


Aqua Teen Hunger Force

continuation of the hit animated series, fans will find out what happens next with Frylock, Meatwad and Master Shake, who consider themselves crime fighters, but the truth is they never fight crime.


Aqua Teen Hunger Force is created by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis and follows the strange everyday lives of three human-sized food products living in New Jersey.

In 2015, Dethklok/Metalocalypse fans had been campaigning for one final season of the show. In April 2016, the show's television home, Adult Swim launched a petition to… make Adult Swim sign the petition… to bring back Metaloclypse, as well as a live video feed of the official fax machine with all entries going directly into a recycling bin.
In essence, the joke was indicative of how seriously Adult Swim took the requests from fans for more Metaloclypse, as creator Brendon Small revealed in a 2016 interview with Loudwire. He mentioned Adult Swim had no interest in bringing the show back, in-spite fans' demand:

“There was no debate, there wasn’t even a returned phone call. It was a hard ‘no.’ It was about as hard of a ‘no’ as you could possibly get … It’s basically like a crappy relationship at the end where we should probably break up, but they kept on dangling the idea of doing this thing in front of me and then dangling other TV show ideas and stuff like that.
“What I think really happened was [‘Metalocalypse Now’ campaigners] drove Adult Swim insane. I think Adult Swim, for some reason, took it very personally. The truth was that people were saying, ‘Hey, what the hell? Where’s our show? We’re here for this show, can you give it to us? We’re gonna watch it like crazy,’ and [Adult Swim] said no. I think somebody’s thin-skinned and somebody got their feeling hurt.”

It didn't exactly have a huge budget, the ratings for it were always pretty high, the tie-merchandise sold fine, so the calculus that resulted in killing it never gelled for me. Its one of those perennial bad decisions that I'm sure had nothing to do with the show itself, and instead was the result of some CN executive snorting Drano off an underage stripper's tits somewhere.

And? There's plenty of shows and movies that end on a cliffhanger, that doesn't mean they should be resolved years later, ESPECIALLY in current year where you know damn well current events/politics/wokeness is going to be injected into that shit.

Unless the original writers took a hiatus and came back with fresh new material and jokes that aren't cringe-worthy as hell, this is going to be either bland, disastrous, or both.

Adult Swim seems to operate based solely on what their head likes/dislikes and not on actual ratings. And getting away with unironically insulting their viewers.

Definitely interested in seeing what they do with Metalocalypse. The Doomstar Requiem set itself up for a sequel, so I'm curious to see how they resolve it.

But, yeah, definitely possible that current year insanity seeps in and ruins it.
