This is a thread to share cool stories you hear in towns you've visited. I'll start with mine:
When I was at Spooner's in Porthmadog last October I heard this story from one of the bar tenders: A few years prior an old man was walking near the Festiniog Railway right of way when he heard a whistle. Running up to the line he saw one of the George England saddle tanks pulling a slate train along the line. As the train passed the man noticed that the crew was dressed like your standard 1870s train crew. Curious the man watched the train go by before continuing on with his walk.
When he got back to town the man met up with one of the railway men and found out something that scared him half to death. You see none of the George England Saddletanks had run that day nor had there been any period goods trains scheduled. It would have appeared that the man had seen the ghost of Mountaineer, one of the original George England Saddletanks that had long sense been scrapped.
