TL;DR - Trump drug being used, having positive results in a variety of countries. Before Corona Virus hit US, hospitals stocked the fuck up on it.
Wealthy people in NY already stockpiled and used drug to prevent severe Covid-19 symptoms.

All of these medical professionals who are saying, "We don't understand the mechanism of action" should have their medical licenses revoked. You want to know why cholorquine works? Watch this:

Exactly. And what did the doctor in that video you posted say? Chroloquine is just a way to get more zinc into the cells. It's the zinc that does the trick, but since people in general are deficient in all kinds of minerals they either don't have enough zinc or their cells don't absorb it well. All the drug stores have now run out of zinc supplements because people watched this video and then went out and bought zinc tabs.

Given we're going to have loads of patients to test on real soon, I think we should organize large scale randomized controlled trials of all the possible treatments to see which ones work the best.

And I can see that 'works the best' may be a bit disappointing given that we can only do off-label use of drugs, i.e. using a drug as a treatment for coronavirus which has already been approved for something else.

Hydroxychloroquine, Remdesvir, and others all seem like they should be in this. Omitting one based on feels just doesn't seem sensible. And it seems like the FDA agrees given this

Editor's note, 18th March 2020: This article was updated to include Prof May's comments. On 19th March the US FDA issued a statement on chloroquine: "The FDA has been working closely with other government agencies and academic centers that are investigating the use of the drug chloroquine, which is already approved for treating malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, to determine whether it can be used to treat patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 to potentially reduce the duration of symptoms, as well as viral shedding, which can help prevent the spread of disease. Studies are underway to determine the efficacy in using chloroquine to treat COVID-19."

That is correct. Most people have various vitamin and mineral deficiencies in their diet, especially in an American diet, because people eat a bunch of processed crap made from nutritionally deficient sources to begin with. All the zinc supplements in the world won't do you any good by themselves though, because the cellular membrane isn't especially permeable to zinc ions. Throw in some Chloroquine and a small amount of zinc supplementation though, and viral replication is inhibited enough to give your immune system a fighting chance to do its job and clear the virus faster than it can replicate. I understand why the FDA is hesitant to endorse the use of Chloroquine without a randomized double blind clinical trial (or two) with a sufficiently large sample size, but at this point, I think it's more irresponsible to not use it off-label for patients who have severe disease caused by coronavirus infection.

It does not stop you from getting the shit OR cure it. It's a virus.
And for the people who NEED this drug, we get fucked.
I take this med for an auto immune disease, usually I pay 4 bucks.
Well, I just picked up my new monthly script and it was 80 dollars...it has never been over 4 bucks in the 10 years I have been on it.

I have been on it for years because of lupus. I refilled a 90 day supply back in February. I hope this dies down by the time I need to get more.

I got really sick anyway with some respiratory virus as they put it in the ER. They don't even test you unless you have a fever. I understand why but it sucks not knowing. I am just starting to feel better now. But my chest still hurts if I walk around too much.

Rich people stockpiling this stuff and it getting overprescribed drives the price up and creates a shortage.

It seems that the key to cope with the Virus is Zinc

I only tke suppliments if the doctor tells me I have a deficiency. So I never have zinc laying around. If I thought zinc along with the hydroxychloroquine would be helpful I would try to find some. But I don't think I will be needing it as whatever I had I seem to be recovering from. But these assmonkeys buying up stuff they don't need in mass quantities just hurts the people who do need them. I'm not gonna be a Steve Polychronopolous.

Any anti-viral medication that may have a positive effect against this virus and is already in use for various illnesses needs to have it's manufacture stepped up immediately. We can do live trials on the effectiveness against the virus as necessary, there is no time to delay here. We literally cannot afford to keep the entire country in complete quarantine for a year, and there will ultimately have to be limited re-opening of various businesses as the year goes on.

Someone has died from ingesting fish medicine that contained chloroquine phosphate, which he assumed was the same as hydroxychloroquine. His wife is in critical condition. He saw the ingredient list and thought it would prevent them from getting coronavirus.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1167166

There have been two chloroquine poisonings in Nigeria and people are being urged not to self medicate as it could lead to death.

Years ago my doctor warned me that hydroxychloroquine can cause retinal damage. Longterm use as well as taking massive doses can result in retinal damage that may not be reversible by stopping the medication.

Let's see how many dumbasses poison themselves or ruin their eyes out of fear. Or take fish medicine. God I hope no one is hoarding fish medicine to sell to desperate people.

I manage mine with Zinc, it has helped symptoms from light face rash to the other lymphatic issues I get.
Zinc is very useful for it, I wouldn't go the drug route unless I had to, but I have family members taking HC for Lupus for years and they've been fine. Which is good. And I wouldn't worry about supplies. They're making a lot and it's quick and relatively easy to make.

It IS showing promise in Covid though. It's major use will be to ward off cytokine storms/ reduce cytokines. As you know, if that happens in Lupus or Thyroid stuff, you're fucked. It is also showing it decreases viral shedding, making it less infectious.

What really bothers me is that the rich (and doctors) in US, Europe and Asia have been taking/buying it since Corona broke, as evidenced by the Bloomberg article. They also used it in Asia when Sars broke. The rich have known about this for a very long time. This wasn't the first time I'd heard about it being effective. Of course Trump would have known if all the wealthy Manhattanites have been taking it.

People can hate the guy, they can say he's a scumbag, but when it comes to ME FIRST policy, the wealthy are ahead of the curve. You follow the money when it comes to treatments for stuff. They don't give a shit about plebs, so the fact it's out there now is positive. People just have to put aside their differences with Trump and get that production moving. Gov Cuomo doing it is a positive step.

It's not without risks though.

While others are focusing on the drug effectiveness component in this debate, I am more concerned about the safety with regard to chloroquine. What I haven't seen mentioned is the contraindication for use of the drug in people who have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. For those who need a refresher from medical school, G6PD deficiency is an X-linked recessive genetic condition, and therefore almost always occurs in males. It is found predominantly in people of African or Mediterranean origin. As a result of mutations in the G6PD gene, the amount of G6PD is either reduced or its structure is significantly altered so that it cannot perform its usual enzymatic functions.

Which I find a curious, regarding Mediterranean men being mostly effected by this enzyme issue and how HC wouldn't be a good fit for them.

Alternatives to HC are Avigan from Fujifilm, which is apparently is showing high rates of efficacy in tests already.
