What are you guys playing during this shitshow?
My explorations: I play PC only, avoid sidescrollers. I play indie games mostly, some unfinished for potential.
The Bad
Hollow Island: Not Fully Released. Open world RPG/crafting in a top-down pixel-art style.
SO much potential, so little done. No professions or character traits/development. No magic, limited technologies. I'm ok with pixel games and simple mechanics, but I literally fell asleep while playing. This POS should have bee finished in 6mo. Spend less time on the music/audio and make it engaging.
Volcanoids: Not Fully Released. (not really)Open world RPG/crafting in an FPS steampunk style.
Artwork and gameplay are busy but OK. Crafting is crap. No direction to gameplay. The volcano erupting every 15min is stupid., it's only done so you don't fully explore the limited island in 2 hours. Good looking but pointless and stupid. I hate Steampunk.
Endzone: Not Fully Released. Proc-Gen Settlement builder - post apoc. top-down perspective (fully variable and zoom)
Unbelievable potential for an AWESOME post-apoc settlement builder. There is absolutely no direction or point in current form. Art is lovely, but wtf are you supposed to do? No conflict (except with environment). No tech development, Building/community development is bizarre. Dev needs a grand strategy. Intro cinematic sounds EXACTLY like Greta. Makes me wanna soundboard it just to make her say "How DARE you!". Preachy enviro-doomer and all that BS.
Gunsmith: Not Fully Released. Mission based Factory-Sim- isometric perspective (90' variable, limited zoom).
Purchased assets flopped together into a factory builder. Interesting premises and design. However, you will spend literal HOURS just filling orders for camouflage gloves. Also, your 'Indirect Fatalities' counter will tick faster and faster while you fill said orders. Tell me- How the FUCK are fabric gloves killing people? Are they used as wadding for artillery bombardments? Why does the CIA require MILLIONS of gloves per year? Errors in factory logic and difficulty understanding layouts due to 90' isometric perspectives. AI pathing problems for workers. Another one I fell asleep during.
The OK:
Rimworld: Fully Released. Good settlement builder. Fun-crushing mechanics like DF, but without 90% of the depth, environment, or intelligence. A good game will keep you engaged until your 10th playthrough when you start to see the patterns and understand how each and every game will progress. Whiny settlement 'survivors' who constantly bitch about the beauty of living arrangements, quality of food, amount of recreation, and whether someone is speaking nicely to them. Snowflakes on an alien world.
Generation Zero: Fully Released. Enjoyable open world FPS/survival that is attempting to incorporate crafting (with no success). Sweden is attacked by killer robots from the USSR in 1989. Horror/stealth is enjoyable but not at the expense of excellent FPS combat. AAA quality graphics and audio, enviromental depth is breathtaking. Go sneaky or go heavy, both are fun. I would give this a Good rating except for ONE fatal flaw: the main mission campaign is bjorked. In the main mission, if you visit a huge airbase prior to receiving the mission, your entire game is ruined. This caused me to lose >25 hrs of progression and I didn't want to start again.
The Good:
Factorio: Fully Released. Proc-Gen world-based Factory-Sim- top-down perspective (fully variable and zoom) with enviro impact and tower defense mechanics (when the bugs come). Deep logic possibilities.
Good looking 'sprite-like' graphics and ok audio. Kills a ton of time, once you solve it, you don't really want to play again. Recommend. Playability potential for achievements, making logic circuits and general autism.
What have you guys played?
