The modern closeted homosexual is way more likely to be from an ultra-conservative upbringing or in that environment, and that might go hand in hand with not going after women. But incel is short for involuntarily celibate, meaning they are pursuing women and not succeeding.

I think incels are incels because they try going after the beautiful people even if they themselves are not, and as a result of those high expectations, it stews inside them and accentuates what is probably already a negative personality. There's nothing wrong with slamming uglier men/women provided they aren't actually deformed or something. I don't think I can tell you how many couples I've seen where both partners just look super average.
