Not to defend TJ too much, but I definitely wouldn't put him in the same category as Steve Shives just for doing this with one person who is clearly only interested in bad faith attempts to attack him for exposure. It's really not that unreasonable to just not feel like dealing with Dusty or any of his fans. A more fair comparison would be to Francesca Ramsey blocking all of Warski's followers.

People have been saying Dusty's doing this for the money, but I don't agree. He's been making pitiful amounts on Patreon and he's haemorrhaging subscribers. This is his socialblade at the moment:

He's getting a decent number of views, but not nearly as many as he could be getting. While you can make loads off BreadTube, ironically it's usually a small percentage who make that kind of money (I want to say the 1%, but since Breadtube's still quite small, that may not be accurate).

I think there is something genuine to his recent flip to SJWism since he started speaking out against anti-SJWism before BreadTube became a big thing (it's only since it became big he's completely gone off the deep end), but I think the key reason can be summed up thusly:

Dusty is very easily influenced.

If you don't know anything about Dusty's personal history, let me give you a quick rundown. He started off as a hardcore Christian. He was a creationist, listened and believed everything Kent Hovind said, thought Jesus was going to return, the whole shebang. He was also a huge fan of Alex Jones and big into conspiracies and even gave homesteading a try for a little bit (spoiler alert: he failed miserably at it).

Then he got on the internet, and if he's to be believed, the decisive factor in him becoming an atheist was him getting sick of being called an idiot for being a Christian.

After that, he got pissed that Bernie didn't get the Dem nomination, and became a hardcore Trump supporter because he spent all his time lurking on r/the_donald.

You're probably noticing a pattern here. Based on what he's told us about how his beliefs evolved, it doesn't sound like he's ever done any serious thinking about what he believes and has come round to his way of thinking through fairly entry-level stuff. All his old atheist videos would just repeat the same points over and over, and they were usually stolen from other channels/blogs more or less wholesale. His newer videos have been following a similar pattern.

His swing away from anti-SJWism sort of bucked the trend, because that was apparently caused by actually reading Trump's manifesto, but I think his latest nosedive into full-on SJWism has just been caused by the recent increase in BreadTube's popularity.

I think to some extent he is a trend chaser, and probably sees this as something that could become big in the long run. But he started down his path way before it was popular, so if so he's been playing a very long game.

So...in other words, he's what he and his fan base accuse of the anti-SJWs and anti-feminists of being: a grifter.

I honestly only watch these now to see how far off the deep end he can possibly go. At this point he’s in the Marianas Trench.

Dusty is now mad at Matt Dilahunty because he dared associate with Rationality Rules who, according to Dusty, is a raging transphobe because he dared to have an honest look at the issue of trans women in sports and Dusty thinks that by doing so he is directly responsible for violence against trans people.

I have no idea why, but Dusty has been throwing down hard for trans people recently. All you need to do is make an attack helicopter joke around him and he’ll sperg the fuck out @GrandTheftAutism style (as he does in this video).

The video is him throwing a tantrum because a bunch of SJWs resigned from the ACA (Atheist Community Austin) over Matt having Rationality Rules on his podcast. I say good fucking riddance. I’m sick and fucking tired of these people thing to colonise the Atheist movement. They were told to fuck off ten years ago, but they’re still clinging on.

Dusty reads statements from the SJWs who resigned where they cry about “microaggressions” and literally say that people’s feelings are more important than freedom of speech and that freedom of speech is a dogwhistle for transphobia and hate speech, while praising these idiots and saying they’re good people. He also cites EssenceOfThought who supports underage children undergoing gender transition surgery.

To put in perspective how insane this is, he shits on AronRa in this video. Aron fucking Ra is insufficiently ideologically pure for Dusty. For those who don’t know, AronRa aggressively promoted Atheism Plus when it first emerged and made a speech saying that if you’re not a feminist, you’rew a sexist. But now Dusty thinks he’s a shitbird becuase he wouldn’t condemn Rationality Rules.

Fuck this guy. He’s basically pushing for another Atheism Plus, and anyone who was around when that first hit knows it’s the last thing we want.

I think one of the funniest things about Dusty switching sides is that whenever anti-sjw's and Atheists try warning his current posse about him, they just get written off because of political disagreement.
