Didn't that stupidity start due to a photoshopped pic that was part of some silly marketing campaign?

I believe on tumblr it was because someone found a painting of a man with dark skin that resembled Beethoven, though it turned out it was a completely different person (I really wish I could find the post, it was pretty hilarious). Research suggest he may have been mixed, but nobody really knows.

Beethoven could have been a lot of things.

He was definitely kind of a dick, though. He would sell works of music multiple times without mentioning he had done it, for instance.

To me, it seems that the majority of people making a big stink about "cultural appropriation" are white Americans and non whites who are already pretty Americanized. As for the latter, I get the feeling that a lot of them feel disconnected from their ethnic culture, so they try to cling onto it and show high school level pettiness towards any white person that show interest in their culture. Sort of like a "If I can't have it, why should you?" mentality. Wheras actual foreigners either don't give a shit or like the idea of other people showing interest in their culture, as long as you don't act like an asshole of course.

I do know that Your Fave Is Problematic has called out Asian bands for stuff like blackface.

ETA- I would say that Asians would usually be the first to be thrown under the bus if it came to that, because they're seen by Tumblr as the second most privileged, right under whites.

In my experience, Asians (and especially the Japanese/Chinese/Koreans) are 'POC' until it's inconvenient, then they're oppressors almost but not quite as terrible as white people.

It's odd how they think that everyone hated their hair and music all the time when there were people who admired them for it. (Even mainstream media.) I've come across people who've laughed at white rappers and/or whites that wear cornrows/dreads.

I've honestly never heard anyone celebrate white people wearing dreadlocks without being immediately dragged through the mud. Nor have I heard people who think dreads are filthy conveniently make exceptions for white people. Is this actually a thing that happens?
