Here's the patch list in full:
General

• English spoken dialogue can now be selected separately from subtitle language
• Resolved issues with unlocking some achievements/trophies, such as the Paramours or kill count trackers
• Corrected pre-rendered cutscenes that were darker than intended after the previous update
• Wireless headsets/devices no longer cause issues with the Xbox launcher
• Improved PC performance across various hardware configurations, including on Virmire
• Fixed an issue on PC where non-standard characters in the operating system's username would prevent the game from launching
• Removed the dependency on the AVX instruction set in the launcher
• Other minor calibrations and fixes, including some instances of crashing

Mass Effect

• Fixed an issue that prevented players from reaching the max level
• Fixed an issue where tier VII Spectre - Master Gear was inaccessible

• Fixed an issue that would prevent the ability to interact with objects

Well the whole situation with both Famicom Detectives Club VNs being censored has people pointing fingers at SJW meddling, secret Japanese feminists, and both sides of the horseshoe theory blaming each other.

In truth the changes don't alter anything major and every version released outside of Japan has the changes apparently. It's looking like it was Nintendo's will itself because they contracted out the translation and other changes to other companies.

But between Super Seducer being banned from the switch and now them doing this to both VNs, you have some lovely batches of infighting breaking out between coomers and nintendo die hards who of course turned coat from praising adult games to shaming them because Nintendo did a thing. But it's really no surprise Nintendo has always been like this where there will be some patches of time where they look like they're going to remake their image or target other groups, only to go back to their origin point. I mean they have a theme park intended for families, are sponsoring the Olympics, and have movies and TV shows coming out, you really think they're not going to play it safe with all the money they've now spent on all of those ventures? They want to avoid controversy,

That and the fiction of them somehow being morally against censorship never held any water to begin with because they're directly partnered with Tencent and to get games released in China they all have to fit the government's criteria and need to be changed if they don't adhere. Aversion towards sex isn't something that's inherently western, China itself has a phonebook of rules and guidelines of what they don't like.

It seems to be an across the board change. I think the assumption could be made that they are now checking the translations that any of the branches are putting out and are being careful. IIRC it was Japan that wanted the fire emblem stuff patched out too about domestic abuse.

It's not an uncommon mindset, Idea Factory even intentionally tones things down for their releases now since most of their customers are western.

The update to that, though, is that they made it closer to the original Japanese. Which makes me think an emotional faggot went off the rails to describe how horrifying this treatment was rather than just follow the script, which is a mixed bag because the west generally just sent girls to... fuck, what were they called? They were basically academies where girls were taught to walk proper, etc.; and this just comes off more like binding feet and an uber effort to teach a bitch to sit and be quiet.

That said they changed it because of the outcry towards her treatment and while my memory is fuzzy, that was definitely the same kind of people angry about the "brainwashing" potion from Fates. I want to say people were claiming misogyny, but fuck if I know. I've buried that memory to protect me from ulcers, probably. You did however prove to me that Nintendo Japan stepped up, so I'll give you that, but that just makes me realize nothing in this industry is safe from the fundamentalist menace -- be they left or right. I think interspecies reviewers is going through rightstuf. I know the books have been localized.

yeah Critical mass is publishing it and it's coming out in December for the blu-ray release.
