Problem is the damage he caused has already been done. His bullshit story has already been picked up by a few "news sites" that defender shills will gladly use as ammo to protect their precious, flawless Game Freak. Not even a goddamn pedo leading them on is enough to diminish their resolve.

At this point it's just a waiting game until the datamines happen and we find out once and for all just how abysmally the incompetent programmers (if you can even call them that) at Game Freak fucked up this time.

Uh... Correct me if I'm wrong, but he wasn't the one who started that information. It was Gamefreak themselves who released a statement, hell the tweet shows said reddit post of said interview. And I know that those articles were a thing before he talked.

So I'm not sure if this belongs here or not, but one of the more hilarious gaming trashfires has been the recent G2A/Indie Devs spat.

G2A, as you probably already know, are infamous for having a reputation of hosting game keys that were bought using credit card fraud (Kinguin is another one of those from what I hear), leaving developers to take up to a $20 hit per chargeback upon discovery of said fraud (game cost not included), Total Biscuit for one did multiple videos and posts on that topic way back when:

Drama around G2A has ebbed and flowed for a while now, but now it's reached a new peak when Mike Rose of No More Robots discussed his frustrations with the platform and its antics, expressing his preference to see his games pirated rather than seeing them sold on G2A (archive).

This created an incredible shitstorm as people and indie devs stormed the official account demanding action, leading to some great slapfights and some exceptional excusemaking on G2A's part like this example:
1563197479403.png
"If we don't steal your tires, someone else will" (archive)

Eventually, G2A attempted to make a PR play and put the onus on the indie devs to prove their allegations, offering 10x the amount of any proven G2A-borne chargebacks. (archive), and they also attempted to bribe some dude into posting a pro-G2A they wrote (archive), who proceeded to leak their email and put them in even more hot water, now they are claiming that a "rogue employee" is behind that. :story: (source archive)

Now do you still remember that 10x Chargeback offer? Well what do you know? Some devs actually took them up on it and sent them bills for thousands of dollars, to no answer. (Source: Factorio devs blogpost archive)

Now G2A is proposing a key-blocking tool, but only if 100 developers agree to it, which is a ridiculous stipulation that is utterly unnecessary, either add the tool or don't. (archive)

The drama has already attracted the attention of multiple YouTubers, including Fredrik Knudsen, who expressed interest in a potential Down the Rabbit Hole episode on G2A, even going to the point of taking screencaps in advance of this mess. (archive)

All in all, this is a great autism rollercoaster and I hope it goes on forever.

Anybody heard of Taliesin? He's becoming a lolcow over muh harassment.

Edit: whooops, this got moved, for anybody wondering Taliesin is a content creator for WoW who tends to be accused of being a shill, looks like a total soyboy and runs a weekly youtube show where he tries horribly to be funny with his gamergirl of a wife while discussing coming features and talking about the retarded fan theories in the game. Asmongold is a veteran content creator that has a big streaming audience and he has been under flak for donning a MAGA hat BEING TOXIC to the point of being banned from Blizzcon, though most of his content is reacting to the other creators' content and giving his opinion on the matter. Az, the guy in the video, was another creator and had beef with Taliesin for being a hater, he went on to be another gaming news person.

Not that G2A's in the right, but that's pretty shitty of the Factorio devs to just take away people's games out of the blue, without an explanation. At least offer them a free legit copy or something. Factorio never goes on sale on a platform known for having fire sales on all sorts of games, so I really can't blame anyone for seeking out a key reseller. That just makes the Factorio developers look worse to me.
Why should they support potentially stolen keys? I agree that they should be flexible and help out the odd good person case here and there, but that's very hard to manage and verify.

IIRC, they also gave the go-ahead to pirate their games if you don't want (or can't) pay them, when a company prefers that you outright steal their merch rather than buy from a specific store, that's a sign of really bad things going on in that store imo.

I think in a marketplace where there are a ton of legit key reseller options (Fanatical, GMG, Gamers Gate, Chrono..etc), no one should be buying from G2A, that's like buying your keys from a fence.

This is tangential to the game, but I just want to say that Taliesin is a pathetic little bitch who probably shouldn't be streaming.

For those who don't know, Taliesin is a youtuber who runs a WoW channel with his wife that has around 250k subscribers. Taliesin is clearly a Warcraft nerd. His wife, Evitel, clearly isn't, but she gets put into all thumbnails because tits. Taliesin and Evitel are best known for being absolute, massive dick sucking shills. They side with Blizzard on every issue--every single goddamn issue--and Blizzard rewards them by giving them access to devs, a constant stream of Blizzard swag and free trips to Blizz HQ. So sucking massive amounts of corporate dick pays off in their case.

Recently, Taliesin has been trying to become a full time twitch streamer (Evitel has a real job, so he mostly solo streams). This has been a huge problem for him because, unlike in a youtube video where you can cherry-pick dumb forum comments to mock and meticulously edit the footage to make yourself look good, he has to be entertaining on his own and deal with criticism from his chat live. But Taliesin is so fucking thin skinned that most of his chat interaction is screaming "banned!" into the microphone and having constant shitfits over people calling him a shill. On top of being generally unlikable, this idiot also decided to pick a fight with Asmongold by claiming 1) that Asmongold is "punching down" when he criticizes Blizzard devs because Asmon makes more money than the average Blizzard devs, and that 2) by responding to his criticisms, Asmongold is responsible for the thousands of hate messages directed at him and Evitel. (Taliesin constantly uses Evitel as a human shield to deflect all criticism)

Going after a streamer with 40 times your followers isn't a good idea so its no surprise when it blew up in his fucking face. Taliesin went from being a guy who occasionally got called a shill to making himself a genuine target of angry Asmongold fans. Like all pathetic cucks, Taliesin has now been reduced to whining and posting random hate messages on Twitter.

What is the law with how stolen goods are handled, after they've been sold to an unsuspecting victim?

This is a worldwide issue and many of the participants are foreign. The law differs vastly around the world.

However, the U.S. rule is nemo dat quod non habet, Latin for "look Ma, I know Latin." You can't give what you don't have. Title, or the right to own something, remains with the owner even after it has been stolen. A thief, having no title to give, can't give it to even a purchaser in good faith. If you let the good faith purchaser just keep the item in this case, people would have no reason to care whether items they purchased were stolen, as they'd just get to keep them anyway.

There are general exceptions to the rule. For instance, imagine someone who routinely purchases something in the course of normal business from an otherwise reputable vendor. One batch of whatever it is turns out to have been stolen. Whoever owned that stolen item routinely leaves it unguarded and doesn't take any safeguards to stop it from being stolen, despite knowing this often happens. Or let's say, they issue tons of codes knowing full well that they often get stolen. In this case, the good faith purchaser can prevail against the seller. Otherwise, there would be an incentive just to fail to protect your own property and then just screw the good faith purchaser.

However, these issues would apply to good faith purchasers.

Let's take the specific example of Factorio. Why do people buy it on g2a, a site notorious for selling stolen property rather than a reputable vendor? Because they know it never goes on sale. So they go to a site that sells stolen property and lo and behold, Factorio is on sale for well below the usual purchase price! Can you really call this a good faith purchaser? This is more like the guy who buys a Rolex from a guy in a trenchcoat in a city park for a tenth of its value.

So the devs are probably entitled to refuse to honor stolen keys, even if they generate them recklessly and let them be stolen. If you don't like it, don't buy keys that are probably stolen.

He "apologized"

Quotes definitely needed, because he isn't sincere in his apology at all. He cried that Asmongold and his followers dislike his content, so he's probably doing this to keep them away from his precious videos that should only get nothing but positive feedback.

Never liked Taliesin, but figured he would've been better than this.

I'm not 12 and I don't know anything about minecraft autism, but I heard about the Yogscast after their parent network, that also included people like TotalBiscuit and PewDiePie, got bought out by Disney in back in 2014. They are a group of British Youtubers and Twitch streamers with a large network and fanbase. They started out with Minecraft, but I guess now do a lot of different things. This morning the CEO of Yogscast stepped down amid allegations of sexual impropriety.
Mark "Turps" Turpin said:
Hi guys,

Just to let you know I’ve stepped down as CEO of the Yogscast. When I recently said we expected the highest levels of professionalism from our talent, I need to be held to those standards too.

I have sent some inappropriate messages to several members of our community and I’m deeply embarrassed about this error of judgement. There’s no justification or excuse for my behaviour. I was in a position of considerable responsibility and you all deserved better from me. If you’ve been upset by my actions, I’m very sorry.

Regretfully yours,

Turps
This seems to in response to the removal of another member of the group, Matthew "Caff" Meredith, after his own allegations came to light in early July when his entire discord moderator team quit and released a statement.

I don't really play games anymore or know anything about these guys, but it looks like there could be some juicy drama. How many pedos and rapists is this group hiding? Since they do minecraft videos I'm guessing there are going to be kids involved.

Weren't these the guys who also raised over a million dollars for some kind of Kickstarter project and then took the money and ran?
Appartently it was a half a million and they blamed the developer. Nice catch.

Kickstarter-funded Yogventures canned, backers given Steam key for another game instead
UPDATE 1: Yogscast has issued Eurogamer a statement on the collapse of Yogventures and the demise of its developer Winterkewl Games.

Yogscast said Kickstarter backers should already have received physical rewards, but if any are missing, they should get in touch.

It added that it is working with Nerd Kingdom, developer of replacement game TUG, to create rewards similar to those that were due to be based on Yogventures in-game items.

Refund requests should go to Winterkewl Games, Yogscast told Eurogamer, "however if people come to us we'll do everything we can to find a resolution that everyone is happy with."

The statement is reproduced in full below:

The failure of Yogventures is a matter of deep regret for the Yogscast, we put a lot of faith in the developer Winterkewl, including allowing them to use our likenesses and brand. However the project was too vast in scope to be realised and despite a huge amount of hard work from Winterkewl they have had to abandon it.

The game as it stands it is not capable of being released and certainly wouldn't live up to the expectations of the people that backed the Kickstarter or pre-ordered the game.

However we don't intend to leave it there as we know that the Yogventures backers and buyers are our most dedicated fans so we are intent on finding them some awesome stuff and cool experiences in its place.

Last week we announced that everyone concerned will get a copy of TUG. Nerd Kingdom's game is still in alpha but is shaping up to be everything we wanted Yogventures to be. In addition, we have organised for Nerd Kingdom to have the source code, assets and designs of Yogventures to ensure we're making best use of Winterkewl's work.

For the Yogventures Kickstarter backers the physical rewards should already have been received and we're happy for people to contact us at yogventures@yogscast.com if any are missing so we can look into it for them.

For those rewards that were specifically based on in-game items we're working with Nerd Kingdom to try and match them as closely as possible and will communicate that directly to the people concerned and take any feedback on board.

We also hope to be able to announce other games and fun stuff for the backers and buyers of Yogventures over the summer. Watch this space.

ORIGINAL STORY: Backers of the Kickstarter-funded sandbox game Yogventures have reacted in dismay at the project's cancellation and Yogscast's subsequent offer of a Steam key for open-world survival game TUG instead.

Yogventures raised nearly $570,000 for indie studio Winterkewl Games during the title's Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, more than double its original goal of $250k.

But the project has since petered out, and has now been disowned by celebrity YouTube partners Yogscast.

"As you may have heard, Winterkewl Games have stopped work on Yogventures - but this is actually a good thing," Yogscast co-founder Lewis Brindley wrote in an email to the game's 13,647 backers. "The project was proving too ambitious and difficult for them to complete with their six-man team.

"While this was Winterkewl's project, we put a lot of time, energy and effort into trying to help them realise their dream. Since we heard the news, we've been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that you still get awesome stuff and cool experiences.

"Although we're under no obligation to do anything, instead we're going to do our best to make this right, and make you really glad you backed the project!"

The first step of this is to give all Yogventure backers a Steam Early Access key for TUG, an open-world survival title that is already in development. Yogscast and TUG developer Nerd Kingdom last week signed an agreement to become partners on the project, replacing the role of Yogventures entirely.

"In many ways TUG is the game we were hoping Winterkewl would create," Brindley continued. "It has huge potential for the future. We've been playing the Early Access version on Steam and you'll soon be able to see us playing the game on Yogscast channels."

But many backers are unhappy with the change - and some have asked for a refund.

"Just wondering, would it be possible to get a refund instead of a key for TUG?" one backer asked.

"I already own TUG as I backed it on here, will there be an option for a refund?" another quizzed.

The issue of a refund is even more of a problem for those who paid extra for other rewards on top of a copy of the game. Over 1000 people pledged more than $90 to the project in return for Yogventures t-shirts, prints, DVDs, comic books, plushies, statues and other merchandise, as well as in-game bonuses. Some had already shipped, but many had not.

"It's the project creator's responsibility to complete their project," Kickstarter's FAQ page states. "Kickstarter does not guarantee projects or investigate a creator's ability to complete their project. On Kickstarter, backers (you!) ultimately decide the validity and worthiness of a project by whether they decide to fund it."

Project creators sign a document legally requiring them to fulfil any stated rewards, but it is up to the creators themselves to adhere to this and work out a refund policy if applicable.

Over 200 people put down more than $300, while five backers opted for the most lavish $10,000 tier where you could go and have lunch with Yogscast themselves.

"Because Yogventures never completed it's going to be impossible to deliver the rewards relating to the finished game," Brindley stated. "However we'll do everything we can to find cool things to take their place." More details and further peace offerings were being considered, he concluded, but would be announced at a later time.

The likelihood of any refund from developer Winterkewl Games looks remote, however. The studio will "probably" now go out of business, lead developer Kris Vale explained.

"Working on Yogventures was an amazing experience and everyone at Winterkewl Games really wanted to achieve the very lofty goals the game set out to do, but lack of experience in planning and managing a project of this scope proved too much for our little team," he said.

"I can't speak for the Yogscast and I make no claims that I do, for their own reasons they decided the game wasn't up to the quality they needed it to be to make videos supporting our pre-order business model. That was and is their prerogative and we had no way of influencing that decision other than making the game as best we could with what we had to work with."

Vale ended up sinking more than $25,000 of his own personal money into the project before Yogscast decided it wanted to pull the plug.

"We missed milestone after milestone and continued to come up short of the quality expectations and thus the Yogscast didn't want to advertise the pre-orders until it did meet those expectations," Vale continued, adding that his personal life also suffered considerably.

"I wish more than anything I would have had this fore-knowledge before we ever began this project," he concluded. "If we would have limited the scope and made a solid plan for working more closely with the Yogscast I have every faith this project would have been a real stand-out achievement in the indie game world."
