I... I've seen this as a fanfic trope, but the idea of people doing this in real life... Sigh.

On the other hand, I find it hilarious that Pullman's atheist screed is pretty much entirely ignored except the one concept of the souls as animals.

Huh, the His Dark Materials series was a favorite of mine as a kid. Edgelords bringing the concept of daemons into their 'real lives' doesn't surprise me though. A lot of Pullman's fans are complete nuts.
