Well, the devs published some details. So, it seems the combat mechanic will be the same but will be tweaked, they also wanna add a crafting mechanic (I guess making trinkets or combining trinkets into a better one), also you won't be just clearing out stuff like in the 1st game but instead it'll be full on adventuring, so guess this will try and be more D&D esque or something.

Campaign will be using a fundamentally different structure, it will be about a journey, not an estate. If we get a mix of Banner Saga and Darkest Dungeon it would either be amazing or a disaster. Can't wait tbh.

The first game is good for anyone who hasn't ever played it/has been on the fence and needed one more rando on the internet to attest to the quality. It is usually my go to example of what Early Access games can actually accomplish. I'm glad they're talking about mixing things up for the second game and not just running back what worked the first time. The first game wasn't without issues. If I remember right, some of the issues came from listening a little too much to the audience during Early Access and trying to appease everyone who was commenting. The DLC helped to refine the game, and the devs continued to make tweaks after release too when the game was already being hailed as successful, so I think they genuinely care about the game. The announce article mentioned the team tripled in size after the success of the first game, so I'm genuinely curious to see where the sequel goes.

I'm excited. I've been a fan of the first game since I picked it up on early access. I was amazed how many heroes they added before they started selling DLC. When I started playing the only 4 heroes in the game were Crusader, Highwayman, Plague Doctor, and Vestal. I'm also one the weird people that liked the corpse mechanic.

oh I am STOKED!! DD1 had to be one of the funnest (and hardest until they patched in a easy mode) Roguealikes i've ever played in my life. At least until the Crimson Curse expansion which made it incredibly annoying by turning all your characters into vampires within their first 2 encounters with expansion mobs at best.

Hell I still play it to this day. a sequel is going to fuck with my finances because I know I'll be calling in some owed, albiet unpaid, time off.

There's a long GDC postmortem from them somewhere where they talked about really wanting to fix some of that but iirc one of the lead dev's family members died right when it was about to hit beta and things kind of ground to a halt.

They also said that they really hated the hunger checks and regret putting That One Fucking Thing Everyone Hates in the final boss fight and promised not to do it again.
