Initial searches have turned up a David Ian Long on the list for recipients of the 2006 (Queens) birthday honors from the UK. If him being a veteran is true then he may have belonged to the Corps of Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers.

It makes sense in the context of being a military veteran with severe PTSD. They can often be extremely distrustful of the government and avoid social media. Some veterans with PTSD attempt to "live off the grid".

There's a rumour that he also lived with his mom, possibly in a home near Newbury Park.

During the press briefing, the sheriff stated that they've had several run-ins with him in the past, so there might be some arrest records at the very least.

A shooter — now identified as ex-Marine David "Ian" Long — opened fire at the Borderline Bar & Grill in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, California on Wednesday night, killing 12 people.

A Ventura Country Sherrifs spokeman said Long was the shooter.

Long was a 28-year-old ex-Marine, born on March 27, 1990, police said.

The Ventura Sherrifs spokesperson said: "We believe he shot himself, he was found in an office just adjacent to the bar."

According to several articles linked above, his name is actually Ian David Long. First and middle names swapped.
