So this is a great little indie game with fast and addictive gameplay and I wanna know if any of you goddamn faggots have played it?

Topics:
  • Best color type (brutality, tactics, or survivability)
  • Favorite weapons
  • Favorite subweapons
  • Best biome
  • Is the DLC worth it?
  • Is it too difficult?
  • Favorite/least favorite bosses/enemies
I'm just gonna bs a bit. My buddy got me into this game since he got it in early access. My computer is dead and it was a shit so I have it on the Switch. I downloaded the Bad Seed DLC when it dropped last night and I really really like it.

The Caverns and the Giant are kind of overly hard, so I'm really glad the new biomes and boss aren't super difficult. The Morass of the Banished is probably my new favorite biome because of how you really get into a good flow, which is my favorite aspect of the game.

I did get yo beating the game with 2 stem cells active, and after that point I think it becomes a bit too much like "jus dont get hit or ever fuck up" and it bugs me that the astrolab is locked behind 5 stem cells.

Anyway, brutality is best color type. Fun game, one of my fave Switch games and surprisingly good for indieshit.

Picked this up on PS store sale months ago and loved it. You don't even feel too bad restarting all the way from the beginning because the levels generate randomly.

Need to get back to it this weekend.

Game's fucking tight, been playing it since the day it came out on early access. The DLC is cool and adds new variety to runs. I've yet to beat the optional 5 cell area, managed to get to the astrolab a coupla times but got obliterated by the boss. Favorite weapon's probably magic missiles or the combination of alchemic carbine + hokuto's bow. Best biome's gotta be the cavern for me, just love the ambience and the music.

I hate it. Bought it because they claimed it's a metroidvania - it isn't, it's a death spiral all the way and is thus unfun to git gud at. I'm not going to replay stage 1 1048576 times for the right to die at stage 31. Silksong when.

It's shame how short it is. If ever a sequel is made it should have at least double the areas as are in game now.

I felt it was really short after I finished my first urn but since getting past 2 BSC it's not so bad...I just want to bypass High Peak Castle. I was really hoping this new biome set had a new way to the throne room.

I would very much like a Dead Cells sequel with ideas on scaling the game more than just introducing more and more difficult mechanics.
I think since Motion Twin had a few people split into Evil Empire some are working on a new game. So who knows if DC will get a sequel or more expansions or anything. I haven't kept up with what MT is doing.

DLC is absolute worth it - its only five dollarinos. Also lmao Morass of the Banished is an absolute dumpster fire on five cell

This game any good? I've been wanting a metroidvania game that hits the spot just right for some time. Mostly I want one with fast, smooth combat. Too many MVs are too slow or too limited in what you can do.

Dead Cells is very fast and smooth, but not much of a metroidvania. There are a few "powerups" you pick up then forget about but they're more of a way of the devs keeping you from going to the hardest biomes right away so you can get used to the game. There are some secret equipment scrolls but but the randomized nature of the game and the amount of weapons already availible makes them pretty nonimportant.
All your equipment is random per run unless you use a custom game, which is nice because not all the weapons are gonna fit you, and some of the restrictions of the base game on higher difficulties can be annoying.

I really like the game. High learning curve with high payout and it has a great sense of flow. The equipment system is engaging and flexible to diffrent playstyles too. It's decently big in the base game, with 3 DLC biomes (two of which come together) and 2 DLC bosses.

I would say it is a Roguelike first and a Metroidvania second. It definitely has Metroidvania elements, like acquiring new abilities that mostly give you access to new areas and items, exploring a 2D side scrolling environment, and a lot of the combat elements are reminiscent of Castlevania. However, it is first and foremost a Roguelike, there isn't much in the way of building up your character like a Metroidvania, you can unlock a LOT of new weapons(probably to the point of detriment to the ease of play), increase the likelyhood of finding better quality weapons, you can increase the number of times you can heal, how much gold you retain after death, but largely the game focused on being hard and replaying it. The levels are randomized.

I personally got it after launch and enjoyed it a little, but really got into about a year after release, and have revisited it a few times since.

Good to know, I'll try it out. I get sick of side scrolling combat games where the combat is a dull slog. I played one a while back that looked great, had gorgeous retro graphics and was even a bit grimdark. Sadly the game played like frozen mud. Everything was too slow! I want to run, jump, do combos, rip and tear until it is done! But that game was far too slow for my tastes.
So here's hoping that Dead Cells gives me the fast paced action I crave.

I'm not into indie roguelites but I enjoyed the game immensely.
The controls feel really good and I love its mechanic where it ramps up the speed with kills - it really helps you to get into the zone.

Yeah it's a very good game to get into the groove of the very good combat while you are playing to a good music playlist.

Okay, started playing it and I've got to say I don't like it.... because I fucking LOVE it.
It's smooth, it's fast, it's satisfying to watch the enemies splatter against the background like the old Splatterhouse games, the retro graphics are charming, the world portrayed is fascinatingly grim, and there's even a bit of humor. The enemy variety forcing you to utilize different tactics is also very awesome, keeps the game from getting boring! I also love the fact that dying doesn't just permanently fuck you over like some other roguelikes. The dual weapons system makes combat fucking amazing. And the music is is just fantastic, really does its part to get your blood pumping!

I think this might be one of the best side-scrolling combat games I've played.

Okay, played enough now that I can definitely say this is the best game of it's sort I've ever played.

-Can't really make a judgement on what the best weapon type is because I tend to use a combination of equipment for maximum effect.
-My favorite weapon combo is Frost Blast and Electric Whip. Frost Blast is insanely useful for stopping the enemy from attacking you while also doing a bit of damage. Electric Whip gives you a bit of range while also ripping through shields.
-Favorite skills would have to be the DoubleCrossbowmatic trap and the Sinew Slicer, both of which really help with bosses.
-Favorite mutation has gotta be Necromancy because it turns every enemy into a health pack.
-Favorite boss is the Time Keeper, favorite biome is probably the Clock Tower because small spaces mean nowhere to run from me.
-Least favorite boss is the Hand of the King because fuck you, stop knocking my traps into the spike pits! Least favorite enemies are those obnoxious little exploding bird/bat things.

Is it too difficult? Fuck no, I beat it. If you can't beat it then you have some gud to be gitting.
Is the DLC worth it? I'd say yes.
Still haven't gone and beaten the hell out of the giant, tho. And I probably should get on that.

Edit: Jesus tittyfucking Christ the giant is a pain in the fucking ass! Took me 3 tries to beat him and even then if he had hit me one more time I would have been done. This game truly is the Dark Souls of rougelike metroidvania games!

Hell yeah I did it, I finally cleared 5 cell mode and got the achievement for it. The heavy crossbow is the fucking tits and makes me feel like the doom slayer blasting demons with a shotgun.
Awesome! I dont think I will ever beat that difficulty.
