Deadline Hollywood reported on Tuesday that Warner Bros. is in negotiations to get the film rights to the Attack on Titan franchise. Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them producer David Heyman would be on board to produce a proposed two-film project that would remake the 2015 Japanese live-action film adaptations.

According to Deadline, the studio is hoping to develop the project after its live-action Akira film. Warner officially green-lit the Akira film in 2011, but the project has been delayed. Former Variety and The Wrap reporter Jeff Sneider reported last summer that Warner was targeting director Justin Lin ( Fast & Furious franchise, Star Trek Beyond) for the project.

The live-action films based on Hajime Isayama's manga opened in Japan on August 1 and September 19, 2015. The first film earned about 600 million yen (about US$5 million) during its opening weekend while the second earned 327,915,700 yen (about US$2.75 million). Funimation released the films theatrically and on home video in North America.

Isayama's original manga has also inspired two anime series — the second of which is slated to premiere in April — numerous spinoff manga, several novel series, a spinoff live-action television series, and an OVA. Two of the spinoff manga — Attack on Titan: No Regrets and Attack on Titan: Junior High — received anime adaptations of their own.

Isayama launched the manga in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and Kodansha published the 21st volume in Japan on December 9. Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in print in English. Crunchyroll also publishes the manga in English digitally as new chapters are published in Japan.

Didn't Sony Pictures register "Attack on the Titan" as a domain name a couple years back? I guess it was canceled for that shitty Barbie movie.

Honestly, SnK has always been a good candidate for a proper live-action adaptation, and by "proper" I'm referring to not replacing important main characters with shitty original ones, and the setting not being all futuristic and defeating the whole purpose of the original work's plot.

You also have the fact most characters are white, but were all played by Japanese actors, except ironically Mikasa Ackerman, who was portrayed by a Korean. I can understand the whole language barrier argument, but it's not like any prior co-productions haven't worked.

Doesn't Warner still have that Robotech movie to never make? They should finish never making that before they buy some more licenses for movies to never make.

Variety reported on Monday that Warner Bros.finalized a deal with Japanese publisher Kodansha to produce a feature film based on Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga. Andy Muschietti (It) is on board to direct.

David Heyman (Harry Potter), Masi Oka (Mega Man), and Andy's sister Barbara Muschietti (It) are producing the film.

Deadline Hollywood reportedin January 2017 that Warner Bros. was in negotiations to get the film rights (with Heyman on board to produce), but Kodansha claimed that the report was incorrect.

Isayama launched the manga in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazinein 2009. Kodansha Comicspublishes the manga in print in English, and Crunchyroll also publishes the manga in English digitally as new chapters are published in Japan. The manga has inspired three anime series since April 2013 — the second part of the third season will debut in April 2019.

The manga also inspired two Japanese live-action films in 2015. Funimation released the films theatrically and on home video in North America.

At least they can't white wash Attack on Titan because all the characters are European. Well, except for Mikasa...
You just know Tumblr will still get mad because they'll be white washing PoC characters. And by PoC I mean tanned White people.

The fact that the vast majority of the characters are white is literally a plot point. Black people do eventually show up, but they'd need to turn these movies into a franchise like Star Wars to ever get to that point.

The people who would get mad about that already hate Attack on Titan.
