Ok, so, MODs be gentle, perhaps this isn't where this belongs, but I see no 'RANT' section.

I have Muslim friends, mostly work colleagues or ex colleagues. They are awesome. Westernised, clever and hilarious mostly. So, I put these awesome folk to one side..

Then, we have other Muslims, marching down the streets of Western Europe (maybe North America too?), under full police protection, declaring their desire to fucking murder me and you as Kuffar (non-believers). This puts me, and no doubt, many of you, in an incredibly difficult position. When I see these people marching, I honestly want to.. (think of the most dreadful way you would end someone)... yea, that.

How the fuck do we work with this? We maybe have Muslim pals who are absolutely cool, then these other fucks.

Your "westernized" Muslim friends aren't Muslims. It's really as simple as that.

The Qu'ran doesn't leave much room for interpretation and re-writing as was done with the Bible in the subsequent centuries, softening the requirements, etc. It's the literal word of Allah as told to Mohammed, which means anyone trying to "Westernize" what is required in the Bible is by definition a heretic.

You just have to judge men by the individual basis. The people that obnoxiously get in your face about their ideology (whether it is Muslim, SJW, homogays, etc) are always more of a chore to put up with than people with a more laissez faire attitude.

This. I've met plenty of moderate Muslims who can act like normal people. Granted they're like moderate christians who really just kind of do it because it's what they grew up with. Generally the ones who follow that goofy nonsense in the literal sense come off as the derka derka jihad types or Ted "Not Gay" Haggards who are insufferable no matter what creed they follow.

EDIT: Let me add a caveat to those who aren't familiar with my past. I grew up Pentecostal and have read the bible both as an ardent believer, as an antitheist, and now as an agnostic. I also own a Quran. The books have both good and bad in them but in general are pretty benign. I think at the time humans were much more violent due to a lack of resources compared to the abundance we have today. Even if you don't believe I recommend reading every holy text you can get your hands on. In general they have the same message, a very human one pleading with people to be nice. We humans, fucked up as we are, can't do something as simple as that.

I have a friend who's a Syrian guy. His family left Syria in 2002 when Assad started cracking down, and they went to Italy. My friend was in Italy for a few years, but he made his way to America, and he went to medical school while also working a job delivering newspapers. Today, he's a doctor, and he does research on Alzheimer's and dementia.

I used to be a strong believer in 14/88 but having cool as fuck black friends and such has left me kind of confused on the whole matter. yeah there's so few muslims in the us, and most of them aren't refugees but upper middle class educated immigrants, that we have very few of the problems europeans have. not that you don't occasionally hear about honor killings or whatever, but no-go zones, massive amounts of rape, whatever? no. in my city crime is way more likely to be committed by jamal, carlos, sean, or even chinh than mohammed. yesterday i saw a lady wearing a hijab and the day before that i went to the lebanese restaurant where the owners are christian but they serve halal meat, and this is the sum total of me seeing or hearing anything related to islam in real life recently.
