We've had a couple threads on this topic already, but for those who aren't aware, I'll keep this brief. Dean Takahashi is a Japanese-American gaming journalist and contributor to the website VentureBeat, whom he's worked for since 2008. While it would be presumed that having that big of a portfolio within the gaming industry would lend to one being knowledgeable about how video games worked, Dean proved in spectacular fashion that he doesn't even grasp the basics of the medium. Allow me to recap;
Dean's troubles began August 24th of this year, when he published an article detailing his opinion on the demo to the highly anticipated indie game Cuphead. He described the game mostly in terms of it's difficulty, which he described as being quite hard. While that's a certainly reasonable position to take on a game, you quickly realize how full of shit he actually is when you take a look at the video he attached to the article. The video is quite long but even the first few minutes of it will suffice to show how legitimately terrible he is at comprehending even basic instructions in a video game;
Dean's failure prompted immediate response from people from all corners of the internet, especially when a tweet from Ian Miles Cheong mocking him went viral. Dean's response to this has been all over the place, first doubling down and comparing the game to Dark Souls and demanding anyone criticizing him prove that they're better than him at the game that isn't out yet, then having the description of the YouTube video posted above edited to call Ian a shitlord and complain about the "racism, sexism, death threats, and calls for suicide" he's receiving, before most recently posting a followup article calling the people making fun of him "troglodytes" and describing the posts of his video as "political propaganda for the disenfranchised gamers, the sort who went from Gamergate to the alt-right and elected Donald Trump as president".
Of note is that Dean's incompetence playing video games has been a part of his journalistic style for many years. In 2008 he wrote a negative review of the first Mass Effect and then later apologized for it, admitting that he never bothered to figure out how the talent system worked before putting out his review. Then in 2016 he wrote an article on XCOM 2 where he complained about the difficulty of the game and admitted that he called up the developer because it was too hard for him.
This situation is still unfolding, but of note is that articles about it are still coming out from various game journalism websites, here are just the ones that Google pulls up.
Some these articles are even more unhinged than what Takahashi himself is coming up with, for example this one written by one Willian Turton which takes the incident and compares it to everything from Ghostbusters to Brianna Wu to Donald Trump for some reason. The white knights seem to be coming out hard for this one and it's going to be fun seeing where they go with this.
